Just to be sure I understand: are we talking about modded controllers like the one with rapid fire button for CoD, the difference being the (much) more sensitive d-pad ? I searched youtube for rapid fire controller, these and it's quite ridiculous. I can't understand why you would ruin your experience like that. The technical aspect is fun though, it's the use that's bogus.

We are talking about making the analog stick hole bigger. Not adding anything, just sanding a hole.
Sanding for smoothness = customization
Sanding for game advantage = modding

Starfire and others, sand down a controller, just to try it out. See if you can beat any of the times set in Discovery mode. The times are "modded", yes. But if you actually sanded down a controller and tried to beat some of the records set by Woody and I then I guarantee you'll be impressed by how sick they are. Playing modded is much more difficult than playing unmodded. You have to move diagonal in a perfect 45 degree angle meaning you can hardly ever see anything in front of you.
Just try it once, it's a huge kick in the balls to say Woody and the hobo brothers times aren't good just because our controllers fit the maximum input values set by the developer of Mercury HG.
Some of Woody's times are absolutely GODLY and it's a shame that you and other people will never be able to appreciate those times unless you sand down a controller yourself.
Alternatively you could buy one of the ****ty controllers (gamestop) I used to use that was apparently already modded due to the bubble size around the controller. Other controllers that are ALREADY "modded" include ALL Madcatz controllers and ALL Gameshark controllers.
Also after futher examination of Shifty Samurai's controller that he customized for redlynx, it turns out that that controller is also "modded". Infact most people have "modded" controllers and don't even realize it. Go on the level "Magnesium" in discovery mode and move diagonal at a PERFECT 45 degree angle while angling your camera so that you move straight and if you can get any time under 4.23 then your controller is, infact, modded or at least "enhanced".
Keep in mind that I don't use my gamestop controller anymore, I've recently obtained a regular xbox 360 controller and found that playing "unmodded" is 10X EASIER than playing modded.

The bumpers are smaller and the triggers take slightly less pull to be fully on with the RL controller as well.
I don't know if the sanding I did inside of the stick holes is enough that it wouldn't be offset by the many paint coats and clear that were sprayed. I laid that clear down THICK.
Using a controller from a store isn't cheating, but purposefully sanding a controller to get more speed is a grey area in my opinion.
Seriously, developers are to blame if they don't use a maximum allowed input that is reachable with a stock Xbox 360 pad.
This issue will NEVER be resolved as people view cheating in different ways.
