It seems to be a recent phase to make your customers pay for something they've already payed for. Which sucks major spheres. All of the big games are now releasing (Or atleast announcing) DLC BEFORE the game even officially releases, which can only mean that it has already been made, or is close to finish.
What's up with that? They're just locking content we've PAYED FOR when we purchase the disk, and then just slapping a lock on it and a $15 price tag on it. It's outrageous. This can be seen in a whole bunch of games recently and I only fear that it's going to get worse. As if the big guns don't make enough money with the millions of sales per release, they have to limit the content of the disk and sell it back to us later on.
Another thing that has sprung up recently are season passes, what's the deal with that!? Why do they plan all these DLCs when they could have simply put them on the disc and released them free, along with the game. Afterall, almost all of them are only going to be $15 unlock keys to content you already purchased, months before.
It's absolutely crazy and it's increadibly cheap, and greedy by the major publishers. We all know it will only get worse, and soon enough we'll be buying disks with 50% of the content locked adn hidden so they can make us pay for it llater on in the year.
Another thing that ticks my rage box is Online passes. This is destroying the pre-owned market that many people rely on to get their favourite games for slightly cheaper. Now when you buy a pre-owned can you can be sure that you won't be able to use any of the online features, without forking out 1200+MSP for a new Online Pass. I'm surprised that game stores still do pre-owned, because I bet the sales are dropping after EA decided on this bright idea (Well, EA were the first I saw, and has been in every EA game I've played since)
Examples of this would be Gears of War 3, many of you will have noticed that about 75% of the weapon skins are locked and are to be purchased seperately, but they're already on the disk which is why we can all see them in MP. Also the new DLC announced (Horde Command Pack), which will be released on 1st November, but IT'S ALREADY ON OUR DISCS, which is why once it's released only the host will need the DLC for the others in the game to play on the maps (But they can't use the new horde fortifications, because that would make noone buy it).
So yes, this was a rant about the gaming industry, and yes it's getting worse.
completely agree mate its a piss-take.
It does feel like a bit of a kick in the balls don't it. The Gears maps won't even be available to play in online VS untill they get them all uploaded to the servers too. I'm so glad I didn't buy that season pass right away.
This is exactly why I share the license of any big-name game's DLC. Makes it half-priceI don't share Trials though. I like RL too much to use an xbox loophole on them
I agree with you T4K. this is really dumb how games are doing this.
As if the companies dont make enough money from all of the sales. They have to make us cough up even more. I hope you guys over at RedLynx dont do this![]()
Well, if people are willing to buy the DLC, why should they stop doing that? I don't like it either, but if I was them, I would do the same.
I thought of that as well. I mean some people are just dedicated to a game and will buy DLC either way. Im like that with Gears. I will buy any of the DLC's probably no matter what.Originally Posted by Fear
But its just pathetic how game developers dont even respect their fans. Its pathetic how they would rather make a ridiculous profit than actually please their customers and make us happy.
If people already bought the game, it doesn't really matter then. They already got your money, so they know they will get more.Originally Posted by xPrOFeSsi0NaL
You do know MS is cracking down on this kinda thing. They consider this marketplace theft, as well as using modded profiles to sign in game trials that unlocks them into full games. Not worth a console ban.Originally Posted by bobozilla
I agree. I can almost guarantee that I've bought more DLC than anyone on this site, and I'm absolutely tired of it.
