    Track editor request/opinion

Forgive me if this has been asked before, but I had done a search and came up with nothing. I know I've only just joined the forums, but I've been a reader on an off ever since I bought Trials HD at release but as of late I've not had the time to play.

I have not gleamed the chance to learn the track editor in Trials HD yet, but I wish to do so with the Evolution. Since having started about coming up with ideas both mentally and on paper for various tracks that the imagination would conjure, I set to test out a simple idea in the current one but could not see it done due to the way the game works.

Now the request in hand to be able to set the Finish line at the start or rather by that explanation I mean at the far left of said track, and put the starting line where the finish would be, now this could be either a skill game or a race track but for the ideas I had I don't mean driving to the left of the screen, but be able to use gravity as the driving force working your way backwards all the way to the finish line while also using reverse.

By which this is currently not able to be done - because the checkpoint to the left will always be the start, and the finish will always be the last - my only way of getting around said complication would be to put them close together and use the height to get the track backwards, then just have the player drive across the bottom of the map once the track is completed to reach the finish lines.

This is just something to consider for the minds out there.

Well, you could just make the track behind the starting checkpoint, and use the alternate finish.

Or you could use something to spin the bike around and use a custom camera.

This would allow checkpoints and the default finish line to work correctly.

But you would need to build a bike turner at every checkpoint.

Which would require so much messing around, although the idea of driving in reverse from right to left is probably the idea I should of forwarded first, because from what I have seen although the bike is flipped, the controls remain the same which would put me off and change the idea to suit the ability of the editor, I only posted this in the hopes that it would be seen as an option for the final release or at least bring the idea to the table for which they can take in either direction for their own concept. As always time will tell but I fear it's too late to even be considered.

I'm 99.99% sure they'll allow more creativity with the checkpoints in Evolution. The forced "left to right" checkpoint system in THD puts sooooo many limitations on tracks, it would be ridiculous if they didn't get rid of it.

Yes, the controls remain the same because turning the bike 180 degrees is a glitch and not a feature.

@bcof - While I would like it if you could number checkpoints, I don't see how it would be "soooo many limitations" if it were left as is.

It would be exactly 1 limitation.

I've explained a way to get around that in my response to the OP, if you think it's too intensive to work out then that's alright, but you CAN get your idea to work.

Jook basically did it. And his track went left to right to left to right to left again.

Most of the innovative things that people take for granted in this game are just ideas that a person had and then they worked out a way to implement their idea in the editor.

If you want to build something in the editor, then build it.

I should not have to go through that much work to bring such a simple idea to life.

If you think about it, the better a track editor is, the less creative we have to be to get our ideas to work. Making a backwards track is a simple idea, yet takes a crazy amount of creativity and work to create.

    Track editor request/opinion

I was saying that the type of track the OP asked about can, in fact, be made with existing tools.

I have a completely different stance on the second part of your post and I hope you don't take this as hostility or anything like that. I am simply trying to make a point.

iCry's track MI3 (or Lasertag) used lights with triggers glued to them to create something wholly unique. I wouldn't want lasers included in Evolution.

Doing things outside of the scope of the game does require persistence and patience to achieve. It takes knowledge and determination to allow your ideas to be implemented in an engine that isn't designed for that use.

Trials HD is a left to right 2D driving line game, set in a 3D game engine. The game was built around that idea.

Saying that the game is flawed or that there is an oversight because you can't drive in reverse from right to left is absurd. You can absolutely make the game behave that way using custom cameras and, I think, 3 objects and 1 trigger.

Saying that testing how to place those items and getting them to work correctly is too "much work" just shows that you don't really want to create that style of track very much.

Look at the things that people like QcChopper, (and his Epic Space Chocken Fire-Fight of Doom!) Murdoc, General RAMM, The Elmonator, Ajuvix, Jook, and DrittesAuge (and many others) are doing (have done) with the game physics. Building tracks that change depending on how you are riding, sections that follow along with you, huge pieces that fall as you drive along them...

These are people who wanted to create something and then took the time to learn how to do it. The options weren't handed to them in some easily selectable "this section falls" menu. They built their ideas and tested, then rebuilt and retested.
Building complex things should be difficult, as it creates a gap between those who want to learn and be innovative, and those who can't be bothered to.

Creative people will find the way to do it, their achievements will be seen by more people, and they will become more well-known for pushing the boundaries of what is possible.

Other people will say that an easier option should be available.

I'd like to do a big boss battle, say a giant chicken from space that spits balls at you, then you have to choke him with one of the balls he shoots, avoid a missile and a fireball that he spits and then confront him with a missile of your own right in his eye making him crumble to pieces... I'd like to do this. OH WAIT!!!! I DID!
