to tell you the truth, i say the game seems pretty much done, mabey a bit of tuning etc with physics or what-ever they need to do, but other than that what really needs to be done? cuz this late in time they cant possibly be making new levels can they, shouldnt all the levels that are going to be in the game done by now? or are they still working on some of em, putting in backround stuff? ive heard people saying the game might for all we know come out in 2012, even though we dont expect it. So what im saying is what is keeping the game from being released, what needs to be done?
Polishing. Lots of it, like every master piece needs![]()
Probably squashing lots of bugs.
It's been finished since july, but they're being big, fat, smelly, selfish jerks!!!![]()
They're just making it the game that they/we have dreamed about. Be patient. When you finally have it on your console, you'll forget all about the pain of waiting.
ugghhh, its just that game developers arnt like OMG I CANT WAIT FOR THE GAME! they can play it whenever they want lol so it doesnt affect them and they take as much time as they want, even tho they could finish it sooner they want to take every possible day to polish the game. it kills me but what ever has to be done so i can play. i just hate to think that there is still a couple months until the game comes out
also if any of you devs have the time to answer this, what major problems and or bugs have you had to overcome while developing evo?
Would you rather have evo this instant with a couple potential problems.
Or wait a short 2-4 months for it to be a near perfect masterpiece to last for years and years to come.
Trials HD had view distance of 40 meters (just fog after that) and pretty small indoor levels. EVO has view distance of 2000 meters (50 times longer), and the game world is huge. There's so much more objects and geometry in the screen to process in EVO, and yet we only have the same Xbox 360 hardware to achieve the same smooth 60 fps gameplay. I have literally spend half a year just in optimizing our technology to make that possible.Originally Posted by TwoHitter
Multiplayer and track central of course have both been technologically challenging to implement. Good multiplayer network code that hides online lag is of course the cornerstone of multiplayer game experience. And you can imagine having hundreds of thousands players searching and downloading tracks/leaderboards at the same time from the track sharing server.
When the game is ready, I am going to write some kind of technical post mortem of the game, detailing our successes/problems and technology choices. But for now, we are all 100% committed in finishing the game. There are many bugs to squash and many things to finetune yet. We want to have the game extremely well polished on release day.
Very interesting and informative stuff sebbi.![]()
If it's any consolation there are still very few games, retail or download, that have the beautiful silky smooth framerate and scrolling speed of TrialsHD as I almost always notice when I play it after another game.
That you have made another quantum leap in detail and distance simply emphasises your and Redlynx's coding superiority from the lesser gamesmakers who grab pre-existing game engines to make yet another variation of the first person shooter or a strategy RPG etc.
Most companies say that, but with you guys, we know you mean itOriginally Posted by sebbbi![]()
And that my friends is why we love RedLynx.
No where else do I have the trust that exists here.
We ask a question and if they can answer they do and to be honest, all it does is make me respect them more.
This day in age alot of developers just pootle along with barely any community interaction and all it does is frustrate us as gamers.
Just a little thanks to you guys at RedLynx and looking forward to reading Sebbbi's "post mortem". I have always loved hearing about the tech behind games (even though I know very little myself).
Evo is going to take over my life!!!
