Happy 2nd Birthday Trials HD - Shipping NOW!

Nothing to do with the topic really, except I painted up another controller. this one is more for the ladies, cause I guess they like Snow Leopards or something.

I even sacrificed my silver controllers buttons because the colored ones looked like hell.

I, hopefully, will be doing a digicam controller this/next week as well. The clear coat sure does take some time to cure though.

The Leopard is REALLY easy to do if you start with a black controller. Just take the controller apart, use some 1000 sandpaper and rough it up some, then wash it with Dawn Ultra and spray it down with Simple Green cleaner. Put on gloves and rinse/dry it. Cut out some tiger stripes, cheetah spots, or, in this case, leopard spots with an Xacto knife on blue painter's tape. While, still wearing gloves, place your masked out spots on the controller. Try to do a better job than I did.

You want the masks to be stuck on good with no edges sticking up. Make it FLAT. Take your masked up controller to wherever you can paint, shop, garage, outside (with little to no wind) and give it a few light coats of, in my case, Krylon Fusion White Primer. It's FAR easier to use less paint and put more on than it is to use too much and take it back off. Keep doing small coats until the controller is white.

Let it dry for at least 45 minutes. I don't care how quick drying the paint is.

While STILL, or again, wearing gloves take your painted controller parts to a table/desk, somewhere you can sit down. Using your Xacto knife, CAREFULLY lift the masks away from the controller. Take your time, when you rush, you get sloppy. You don't want to scrape the controller or the white primer. Throw the masks away.

Take the controller back outside (wherever) and spray with clear coat. Some clear coats are tricky, if you let it dry for too long between coats you will end up with a little fogging. The controller should be dull looking before you spray it with clear because of the sanding and the matte texture of the primer. When it is shiny, quit spraying. Let it dry for 20 minutes and spray, basically, the same amount again.

That should be all the painting you need to do. Wait a few hours, I waited 5 with the THD controller and then bring it into your house. Wait 20 more hours. Assemble the controller CAREFULLY.

Congratulations, you have painted a paper-weight! Yay.

    It actually worked. Awesome.

No Pro, I'm only making one more. Controller and that's for Murdoc winning the last season of THD.net. Darn weather slowed the process up.
