I'm a bit worried by this. Today's hero, Rolp (day 17) can get to the end of the level by just holding right. Which is fine.
Try it a few times. You'll get surprisingly different results - a spread of about three seconds, or more if you get held up on one of the little triangle rocks badly. On the first "jump" (you're not jumping for this, of course), you sometimes land on the flinger thing, sometimes not, sometimes you get a good boost. A friend failed to make the leap and fell down the hole, though I've never seen that myself.
Does that mean that the game is inconsistent? Yes, I think so. Is that important, in a race measured to a millisecond where the result goes towards the global leaderboard? Yes, I think so again - in as much as it's only a bit of fun!
It makes the game considerably less satisfying to me that I can beat my best time, a carefully judged assembly of jumps and landings, just by holding the "go right" button. Which I did today, beating my previous gold by .2 seconds.
(Credit to co-player Jochta for spotting this, and falling down the hole!)
The hands are moving before you hit run button. So with physics it then creates bit different run.
So it is determistic for sure. We are making update atm and hero will be still and not moving on that update. Update is done next week. Also more pieces to track and small fixes coming.
There is nothing random and skilled players get faster times.
That's excellent to hear Anba, thanks for the reply. I hadn't noticed the hands!
VERY interesting. I might have to pay attention to when i press GO in relation to the hands to get the best forward momentum. Interesting....Originally Posted by Sessile
