I will be the greatest mod of all time. If you vote for me I will make sure there is always a fully stocked vending machine in the cafeteria and after school activities will get proper funding!!

I think most of the work that the "promoted" mods do is managing spam, and that sort of thing. Moderating forums is a tough job, even if there are established guidelines. There is a very fine line between keeping things fun/safe/respectful for everyone and killing the fun with over-moderation.
I do think that if people know they are going to be treated with respect, it makes it easier for them to feel accepted or get involved in the forums. Since we should probably expect an increase in visitors with this summer/fall of RedLynx launches, it would be nice if those people feel welcome when they arrive.
While I think that we probably do need some more strongly stated guidelines, I think the majority of us know how to keep things respectful. It's just a matter of actually doing it.
At the end of the day, this place should remain fun for everyone (and not at someone else's expense). It's unlike any other forum I've been a part of, and it's the only one I come back to almost every day. I know other people around here feel or felt the same way. Maybe we can get it back to being that way on our own. But maybe I'm being too optimistic.
@les - Do you truthfully feel that the amount of moderation is adequate to the current amount of forums users, let alone the eventual influx of Evolution players?
I agree that the Forum should be able to self-moderate, but that's just not what happens here now. People belittle others, act disrespectfully, and act like they are the only person whose opinions matter.
By having moderators slap these people down every once in a while, you remind the community that there are consequences for behaving inappropriately. And, because you said exactly what you said, I think you've proved you would make a good mod. Moderators shouldn't want to delete, modify, or, really, do anything. It should only be done when necessary.
I agree that you're not going to have everyone self-moderate - it will never happen. It was mostly just wishful thinking and a gentle reminder that we can't get caught up in some of the behaviour that we see.Originally Posted by ShiftySamurai
As for the amount of moderation, no there isn't enough, but I think that the guidelines have to come before then mods can "moderate". I just don't think that anything like that has been tackled yet. I also don't know how much time the existing mods have to devote to it. There are an increasing number of topics with launches on multiple platforms - it's a lot for a couple people to read.
I appreciate those who have expressed confidence in me, but let's see what other people on the forum think about this issue and wait for an official response and see what RL feels needs to be done.
Those aren't the thoughts I was asking for!Originally Posted by raistlin2076I wanted to know what other people thought of the moderating situation as brought up in the OP.
It could be better... its fun sometimes but to be fair it gets a bit much sometimes..
You need a mod who is no way whatsoever involved in Trials, someone with basic ethical standards. I have stepped over the line more than a couple of times in this forum and if I had of been banned it would have made me realize what a **** I was being.
The site needs a little tester page before you can post eg. for drunken yobs like myself and Raist a mini straight white line on the screen to see if we could guide our finger along it all the way to see if we are eligible to post.
For trolls, braggers and haters just flash some soul lifting quotes that inspire and bring a smile to people on the screen before entry into threads, or a Bob Marley sound bite or something![]()
