Hey gang I'm dropping in again to lay out the basics of how to file share your tracks via the internet. Now this tutorial below is rather basic since I don't have my home PC and 360 in front of me, but some veterans should find this easy to follow and can refine it from there.
First, some Q & A:
How does this work?
To put it simply each Trials custom is a save game. It's not signed to anything in particular. Just as you can copy your save game to a USB drive and take it to a friend's house, so Trials track sharing works. When you "download" a file from a friend's set of THD customs you're literally just transferring a save game from their profile to yours through the game. This method is the same, but instead of the game, we use the internet and a USB drive to move the file, eliminating the need to have a full friends list.
Can I get banned for doing this?
Absolutely not, for the same reasons listed above. We're not "modding" anything at all, we're just transferring a save game. Save games don't affect your gamertag, profile, or gamerscore. For example, if you downloaded a save game that had the game 100% complete you wouldn't automatically get the achievements. I will warn everyone not to be stupid and hack gamer profiles/gamertags/save games. The first two should be obvious as to why. The latter is just a warning - if I don't give it someone will go out and modify their Modern Warfare save game to cheat, get banned, then blame it on me. Bottom line, if you're only transferring Trials HD tracks you will never be banned as you've done nothing against the Xbox Live Terms Of Use.
Does this work with DLC?
No, and frankly if it did I wouldn't post this tutorial. Go out and buy the DLC. It's some of the best points you'll ever spend. I will say, however, that for the purposes of this tutorial we're assuming you have both DLC packs. Each custom track is different - it may need one pack, the other, none or both. So to be safe just spend the dough to get both DLC packs so you have everything required.
I followed the tutorial but it didn't work !?!?!?JFIE#@
Sorry, I'm doing the best I can from memory. I suggest just being patient until other players have perfected the process. I also may need to make things more clear as I'm doing this from memory. If so, let me know.

How to upload: **NOTE: I'm doing this all from memory as I'm not at my 360, please correct any mistakes
1. Download the free program USB XTAF, a program that will allow you to read FATX (the 360's file table structure) on a PC.
2. Insert your USB drive into your 360. Format if necessary. Then browse to System Settings, then Memory. Open up your hard drive, then Trials HD, then select the track you want to upload. Copy it to the USB thumb drive.
3. Repeat for any additional tracks.
4. Take your USB drive out and insert it into your computer. Let the computer recognize it.
5. Open USB XTAF, then open the USB drive with the program.
6. Browse to the Trials HD directory (again, I can't recall the exact address, just thumb through until you find your track for now).
7. Extract your track(s) to your desktop, zip up as desired.
8. Upload!

How to download and install tracks: **NOTE: I'm doing this all from memory as I'm not at my 360, please correct any mistakes
FIRST TIME ONLY - If you've done steps 1-5 proceed to step 6
1. Download the free program USB XTAF, a program that will allow you to read FATX (the 360's file table structure) on a PC.
2. Insert your USB drive into your 360. Format if necessary.
3. Fire up Trials HD. Go into the track creator and change something.
4. Save that track to your USB drive, not your HDD. Name it something like "DO NOT DELETE". This will create all the folder structure you need and help you find where to put your tracks later.
5. Remove your USB drive from your 360.
6. Insert your USB drive into your PC. Let the PC recognize it.
7. Open USB XTAF (link is above), then open your USB drive.
8. Browse to where the track you made is. Search around until you find it for now'll update this with exact directories later). This is where you need to inject your new files.
9. Download the track you want from the internet (as of this writing no tracks have been uploaded yet).
10. Unzip and get the actual track. Use USB XTAF to insert it into the folder with the track you created earlier.
11. Close out USB XTAF.
12. Remove the USB drive from your PC and insert it back into your 360.
13. Browse to System Settings, Memory, then your USB drive. Find the Trials track you added. Select it, then copy. This will copy it to your profile. Note I said profile and not just hard drive. As this is a save game you'll need to repeat this process for each profile that wants to play this track. Unlike DLC save games don't work across all profiles, thus the multiple copies.
14. Play!
This was figured out LONG ago.
And there is no custom track that requires both DLC packs, as both packs include the exact same editor extras.
yo thanks for the tutorial.
now i understand how track teams work![]()
Thats not how track teams work......just make a GT and share the account infoOriginally Posted by LumberjackThen always share the latest version of the tracks (aka share all tracks to not lose them)
You are in fact violating the terms of use by doing this.
You are using unofficial software based on Microsoft code to alter information stored on a save device. This is against the Terms of Use because you take the information from a save device and put it in your computer by use of a reverse engineering hack.
You probably will never have ANY problems with this, but saying that it isn't against the ToU isn't true, though getting in trouble for it seems highly unlikely.
This is actually how I forwarded the UCCC2 tracks to our 4th judge.
Touche on that one, sir. I hadn't thought about that. I'll update the post when I have time.Originally Posted by ShiftySamurai

Ahhme and I were looking at as soon as the Xbox started allowing USB drives to be used as memory devices.
We decided that most users wouldn't really do it, and it opens up the possibility of track stealing through hacking of hex. It certainly will work to allow you to send tracks to others via email and P2P but it's not the easiest thing to do.
Kudos on taking the initiative to write the tutorial though.
Fair enough. As an outsider it seems rather that creators would like to have their Xbox Live accounts back for personal use. As a long time modder for games I find that you handle content thieves on a one-off basis. Honestly a lot of our readership at XBLAFans doesn't go for the friends list thing due to the fact that everyone's full and they must wait for a response to their message with a FR. I would guess they aren't alone. Plus hosting files would increase overall traffic and notability to the site.
Still, I get the concerns. Ultimately it's up to you as a community.
A bit off topic, but does anyone else remember the Microsoft stance on why only 100 friends are allowed?
I think it had to do with Xbox Original XBL limitations that have since been removed, yet there is still this silly limit.
The fact that Trials Evolution is set to have Global Sharing without the need to be friends is some of the most exciting news that I have heard from RL about Trials in a while.
