Capture card question
Alright, heres the thing. I have a jailbroken PS3 that a friend of mine wants to trade with me for his capture card, which is AverMedia HD DVR. I suppose my question here is, how does that compare with the Hauppauge HD PVR? Ive seen the PVR get alot of praise, as well as the amazing quality. Are they really similar or is there a noticable difference? Ease of use, software compatibilty, etc etc.

Re: Capture card question
Never heard of the AverMedia HD DVR, I wouldn't give up my Hauppauge for anything! Also why would you give up a +$300 PS3 for a +$120 recording device???

Re: Capture card question
Here's a review on the avermedia card. You may want to look up some others too.
http://www.crunchgear.com/2010/03/11...-capture-card/
It can record from an HDMI cable, which is good, and also allows component recording should you need to. The page says the cost of this card is only about $100 bucks, so I dunno if that's worth your PS3. The guy in the review was probably having problems recording from HDMI because some of his sources were encrypted. I don't think you'd have that problem recording from the XBOX. Overall, it doesn't seem like he liked it very much.
Maybe do a search for "hauppauge hd pvr vs avermedia" and I'm sure you'll find a lot of opinions. Most people I know use the Hauppauge though for HD recording.

Re: Capture card question
keep the PS3. top end recording devices are $200. the black magic intensity pro (PCIe card), and black magic intensity shuttle (box outside the computer) can go up to 1080p (rather than the 1080i of the hauppauge)
as for their actual quality i have no idea
