    Emotional Games.

I am curios as to wether other people experience what I call "Emotional", whilst playing through Story-based games.

When playing through Mass effect 1 I had no idea I was becoming so attached to characters, and at the end of it I got that fuzzy feeling because it was so emotional. The exact same thing happened with Mass Effect 2, I had no idea I cared so much for the characters and the story. I honestly find it to be one of the best gaming experiences possible, it's rare to get a game that gives off so much emotion. Yesterday I started Dragon Age, also created by Bioware (Gotta love em'!), and I haven't even reached the half way point yet and I've already encountered this "emotional" experience, when a character musters up the courage to sacrifice himself. I think it has to do with the music being played in the background, the intense cutscenes, and personal character opinions.

Well, now I'm all about story-based games.

In fact, Trials needs this injection of a story, which is full of emotion. Perhaps you build you way the underground only to watch your rider, who you've become emotional attached too, fail at the last obstacle and break his neck. Epic music and slow-mo sh*t.

I was extremely sad at the end of Sonic Adventure 2... Shadow...

If the rider failed and broke his neck in slow motion I'd just laugh

In AC2 I felt everything Ezio felt, when his family died i was sad and pissed, and I loved slitting each of the bastards throats who killed them, Which is probably why that still remains the best story mode of all time(at least for me)

    Re: Emotional Games.

i dont really get 'emotional' at anything, never mind video games.. but i know what you mean.

one bit that kinda got me, surprisingly, was near the end of Braid. on the princess level that you play through twice, the second time was not just emotional but stunning aswell. leaves you thinking about it afterwards.

    recommended

edit: also have to confess my 'emotions' when i finished halo 3 for the first time. the games single-player got 'dissed' a lot but i disagree. apart from less than interesting level layout in some areas, i think the actual story was as epic as it should have been.

id followed the story from the start and at the end, even though id only been through 3 video games, i really felt the chiefs massive sense of accomplishment, after everything he'd done in the story. also the bit where you get cortana back from the flood. for a biologically-enhanced supersoldier and an AI hologram, they were a pretty good couple

I love watching Emile in Halo Reach just owning the Zealot, at the end.

Final Fantasy X got me too...

I think there will be more games that create such feelings in the future. Video games are still a very young medium. Storytelling in videogames one day will get to a point where it catches up with movies or books. Writers and filmmakers just have a lot of experience that game-developers are still lacking.
