Need help with a riding technique....

I hope I can explain what i'm after here......I have the worst trouble getting smooth runs up steep ramps....be them short or long....1 time out of a 100 i'll get a smooth run up a ramp....the other 99 friggin times I seem to get a frontend bounce that causes me to loose speed and momentum because I end up pullin a wheelie when I need to be keepin the front wheel on the ground.....Make sense?

For example, when I run the Vertigo track....once you clear the first little gap there is a steep run up a large I-beam and a second run up a slightly shorter beam after you clear the jump......I try time and time again and I can't get good runs up those beams without getting that frontend bounce when I hit the beam and by the time I reach the top I'm in a wheelstand and can never make the gap.

Is there anyway to explain to me what I'm doing wrong by my discription, or would you need to be watchin a video of my run?.....You guys make it looks so easy, but I can't seem to get it.....I've tried hitting the ramp a multitude of ways and I can't pin down what I'm doing wrong and it's driving me crazy, so any help ya'll can give me I'd appreciate it....thanks.

Right, i'm not ENTIRELY sure what your trying to get at here...but to get a smooth run up a ramp, lean forward (of course) Don't told the analog stick to the right if the incline isn't that much because you will bring your back wheel up, only hold it down on steep ramps.

But towards the point what your getting at, when you hit quite a steep ramp, ALWAYS hit it with your back wheel first, and then if you want to shoot up the ramp (if it's not that long) a trick is to lean back as soon as you hit it with your back wheel, then lean forward before your front wheel flips over, this causes you a little speed doing a safe wheely up the ramp, practice it in editor. But once you lean back, if your not yet at the top before you flip over just lean forward and you will still have your maintained speed (Only start to lean forward when your back wheel is just on the ramp though otherwise you will dig your front wheel into the ramp and f*ck up)

Hope it helps, sorry for the bad explaining :/

I'm by no means an expert but what I do on Vertigo is I lean back just before I hit the ramp then push forward as soon as I'm on it (trying to get my back wheel to hit first). Then don't keep pushing forward, actually let go of it and just tap forward a couple of times as you are going up the ramp, maybe in like 0.5 second intervals.

The big mistake I used to make was that I would keep pushing forward all the way up the ramps and I'd slow down by the time I was at the top.

The best advice I can give you is to play and learn.

Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, feed him for life.

I think my best advise is to try and study some replays.
That is normally how I try to figure out how to tackle a certain track or obstacle. Look at the way the bike move, the tires land, the rider shifts.. take a peak at the controller movements.

Here is my replay of vertigo (not sure if it helps or not... but I am a visual learner).

Yup. Stupid fish. Do you know how CRAPPY it is to find out you are allergic to fish? I mean seriously, you almost die. It's not fun.

The way I understand it is, if you give me a fish I'll eat for a day, but if you teach me to fish, I'll be gone for the whole weekend.......

Thanks for the help guys......I actually do spend ALOT of hours playing Trials, and I've spent several hours studying the replays of others....that's helped on some things not on others.

I think one of my biggest obsticles is my 53 year old thumbs don't have the muscle memory for using these controllers.....I have only been playing console games for a little over a year.....Throw in some slower reflexes for us old guys, and I can't seem to do what you guys do....at least not as often...lol....I make all the same movements but I must be a nano second to late or something, cause I don't get the same results as ya'll get.....I'll keep at it....Thanks guys.
