Everyone hates the object limit. That's a given, but RedLynx has made a valid point as to why they have created a limit. For those of you who don't know, they have a policy of avoiding loading times due to the fact that Trials HD is an arcade game. People just want to pick up the game and play. The idea that I came up with is simple and was inspired a bit by Jarr3tt88's recent track pack.
Why not just implement some sort of teleportation/door/elevator object that will make the player feeling like they are playing through one level seamlessly when they are actually going through multiple tracks? A teleportation device would work great in my opinion because you can simply create a quick fade to black for a few seconds that will make the player feel like they are teleporting meanwhile the next track loads. Since every track is limited to an 8k file size, the transition between tracks should be no longer than hitting, exit and selecting another track as fast as you can.
If this were implemented, people could do what Jarr3tt88 probably did and continue working on one map and simply delete the previous sections of the map in order to fall back under limit and continue building, thus making all the maps feel as if they were one. The only somewhat confusing part could be linking teleportation points in between tracks. A simple way to do this could be adding an option to the "D-Pad Up" menu that says something like "Link To..." and then you could link to a specific teleporter on a track. Teleporters would also be limited to being linked to only one other teleporter though. Aside from teleporting into other tracks, you could also teleport within the same track. This would create endless track ideas.
Clearly, this is a rough idea that could implement some problems but I think it can be worked out and would be awesome for those epic tracks that feel too short.
Tell me what you guys think. If there are any Trials developers reading this, please let me know why this could and couldn't work.
I feel honored to be of inspirationYour idea sounds interest, but might be complex. Something that could possibly be done for THD2.
FYI, I made 'Sum of Parts' first and then broke up the tracks individually![]()
Yeah, I don't think it'll be something that can be applied to the current Trials HD game as we know it but it's an interesting idea for the developers to maybe try out for future releases of the game. You need to make more continuous tracks. They look pretty fun.
Thanks manI was thinking about it. Was fun to make! Only wish i coulda got the 6 themes like I wanted. Maybe next won't be so long....(size limit got me with 70 room blocks long)
OT: I really hope they come up with something because sometimes you just get started on an idea/track and you hit the limit. Then have to scale WAY back. Portal could be cool, but I don't think would work very effectively. It would kill the flow of the track and also what if someone didn't have all the parts of the track? Maybe the files could be linked together delete one delete all?
Edit- I just thought of something that could possibly workWhat about like the old school racers where they didn't render the whole track to save on loading/size/rendering frame rates. Example:
You'll drive normally, then behind you the track disappears (off screen) and on screen its not fully in front of you. Could work maybe......
Who knows, I think the size limit was based on the arcade title. Hopefully with a retail release, they will be able to give us more sizable tracks![]()
I disagree a lot of times I want to stop in between tracks to look at my scores and maybe look on the leaderboards to watch replays, so teleporting would only work if they showed the menu WHILE you were teleporting which would mean a significantly higher load time, and honestly if you go past the object limit youre map is most likely A. too long, B. has too much stuff( Get rid of decor and stuff that doesnt add to the map) or 3. has way too many lights and physics, which will make it lag anyway. Just my opinionOriginally Posted by raulness![]()
I agree with all of you but my question is how?
Well, you could always pause the game and check out the leaderboards like you already can. You won't be able to watch replays but that seems lie a stretch anyways. I'm not implying that you'll never have to go use the menu again. I'm saying that if you wanted to, you could link up multiple tracks in the way that Jarr3tt did. This wouldn't be overkill. There shouldn't be any physics lag because each map would be a new track and would not be lagging due to previous tracks. Maps would only feel too long if they were all extreme and were just plain frustrating. Take a look at Jarr3tt's map pack again and imagine it flowing smoothly between tracks with minor pauses in between. It would play the way Jarr3tt might've imagined it.Originally Posted by Zoidberg747
Like I said, it's a rough idea but it could have potential. It doesn't even have to be a teleporter, it could be a door similar to all of the oldschool NES and Gameboy games (Mario, pokemon, etc.) As soon as you go into a black door way, the screen goes black for a second and then you're in another level while it never feels like you stopped to load a new one.
A quick fix to teleporters in the case where the player hasn't downloaded the next map would just make the teleporter serve as a finish line so that you can still play tracks individually. I'm not sure how time would work when doing an entire pack of tracks though. Would time just pause during the loading transition or would a new set of times just begin at the beginning of a new track?
I was also thinking that maybe instead of downloading the maps separate, they could be downloaded as a track pack and only played as a whole. I don't know. It's a very possible idea in terms of programming but the cons are definitely there and they would have to be worked around. My main concern is that it wouldn't fit the theme of Trials HD.
raulness, I like the way you think. I agree it would break up the flow somewhat, but to be able to play Crow's space series back to back would be epic. Maybe even set up a playlist, similar to tournament mode. I know its wishful thinking, but thats what these forums are for. ****, I looked at this thread on the hopes of some magic secret to bypass the object limit. Impossible, I know, but a dreamers gotta dream right?
That mario black door idea is awesome![]()

I would love that!
