my first ever track- chain smoker. it may be well below the standard of many of the other DLC entries, but i couldn't resist having a proper go at this track making business myself. so here's my one and only effort-
route 1

route 2 (not executed well)

hopefully it will appeal, if only slightly, to some of you lot. i'd be really appreciative of any feedback as i only have a very limited period of time to make minor changes. it's essentially structured like a sideways figure of 8, with the high routes being the quickest. problem is, it's extremely tough to string both high routes together, and the player will usually have to flow from high to low or low to high. i've tried to make the obstacles and flow as original as possible, but may have failed in this respect as my track making experience is limited and i've hardly had much of a chance to check the output of others.
i'd be grateful if anyone has any suggestions as to which trials contest judge is best to add in terms of reliability. i'd really like to get the confirmation message.
also, if anyone would like to play test it, add me. gt- equinox code
thanks
Not bad for a first track![]()
thanks! had a good response so far, which means i might actually try making another at some point. anything noticably wrong with it? hopefully not, as i may enter it into the competition tonight. i'm bang on the object limit so not sure there's much else i can do. however, i worry that the shortcut in the second vid is a bit too hard. then again, i thought that about smelting hazard and can pull that one off very consistently these days.
edit- am i likely to be penalised for not having any physics objects? i had some in originally but removed them as they only seemed to add an element of randomness. i also have hated all other phyics based levels i've played in the past.
looks very good and especially for one of your first. i like the little techy backflips and stuff, seems like a very fun track from the video i will have to play this one![]()
sweet, just checked out a few of yours and they look bang on the money. add me up and we'll trade courses, so long as you don't mind the fact you'll only be getting the one from me!
anyway, i've submitted it now so can't really change anything. would love love love it if my first attempt made it through to selection, but i certainly won't hold my breath.
thanks for the kind words all, and although i can't make any further alterations, i'd still be pleased to hear people's views.
fun and technical track!
It's in my favorite tracks.
thank you, that's great to hear. i've also been really enjoying yours. gave them a good couple of hours last night and was very rewarding.Originally Posted by forostm
as a slightly disappointing aside, i've now realised that i submitted the wrong version of my track. it's no major catastrophe, but the version uploaded is missing one or two minor tweaks to the racing line, a hanful of small scenery alterations, a more realistic platinum medal time, and also some marginally brighter lighting. oh well. could be worse i suppose.
The earlier versions were just as good mate, chin up.
cheers. at first glance, i don't think my slightly newer version will seem any better or worse, but i suspect after a deeper playtest my latest improvements will be missed. essentially, the first lower route (under the chains) and the second higher route (requiring the tricky flip thing just after the main descent) were ludicrously hard to execute quicker than the alternative routes. where as in the past i'd suspected these two routes would in theory be the quickest available, despite numerous hours practice, i'd never managed to implement them into an improved track run as they were just too hard. i'd basically just made those bits a little easier.Originally Posted by DarkSoldier
