Re: Trials HD vs. Trials 2

I was readin through FaceStab's post and then realised he hasn't actually played THD, so you can't really say some of the things you said. Okay i apprechiate it is your personal opinion, but none of which are set in stone or fact.
I have only ever played Trials so can't possibly say which is better but i think alot of people will say THD is better because it is more modern and the Devs learned from their mistakes in T2SE, such as the physics are spot on etc.
But i have played some of Redlynx' earlier games and didn't really like them much because the bike controls seemed to be TOO sensitive for my liking.

Re: Trials HD vs. Trials 2

    I've played both.

I prefer Trials HD. The level editor adds so much depth that it's almost unreal.

If we are looking at JUST game play, I still prefer Trials HD, to me it looks better, plays better, and while it still has some strange things happening with physics, it's not as bad as some of the things that have happened to me in Trials 2.

They are both great games, but Trials HD just seems like a more highly polished and fun game to me.

I haven't played Trials 2, so maybe I shoulden't give my opinion on this, but I will anyway. I've seen plenty of T2 in the dedicated section, and I have to say that THD is the better game.. Trials 2 is without a doubt a good game, but to me this comparison is impossible. It's like putting Michael Jordan up against Jerry West. Both were really really good, but time changes alot of things, in the case of T2 vs THD graphics and engines, and just by looking at vids of the gameplay of T2 I can tell that the improvements made in THD is quite immence..

I am a sucker for old games I've played, like quake 3 arena, which were by the way is actually full of stupid flaws, so I can see why people would hang on to T2, but THD is IMO without a doubt the best.. The best of the best

I've never quite understood the issue people seem to have with T2SE's physics. I figure it's just a game, and therefore realism has to take a backseat to playability. Whatever the physics of the game happen to be, you adjust yourself and learn the controls to respond accordingly. Barring any major consistency issues, it seems that whatever you're comfortable with is the 'better' engine for you.

I recall the first time I hit the gas in T2SE, I backflipped right onto my head. It wasn't the game's fault. It was mine. The game presented me with a set of rules, as all games do, and it was incumbent upon me to adapt to them. THD is the same, though I think they reduced the learning curve to the point where you don't have to crash for 4 hours before you complete the tutorials. In that sense, the improvement had more to do with not turning new players off before they've discovered the addictive, fun intricacies of the game. When I hear complaints about the physics, regardless of which game, I always want to point the person towards the replays proving that they're no impediment to good performance.

That said, I didn't have anything bad to say about THD. I was just pointing out the things I KNOW I prefer -- Things that have changed between the two games. I like the 4 key keyboard control system. I like the limited number of tracks. I like that there's only one bike. And I like the simplified design of the tracks.

THD definitely has better graphics, and it definitely has a more realistic physics engine, and it definitely has a track editor. I'm just not as interested in those things as the majority of riders are.

I agree to a point. But when my front tire is on one side of a wall and the rest of my bike is on the other side, and the bike still falls to the ground, I would have to say that's an impediment to my performance.

There's a flip side to that comment as well, when I am playing a game that has a really polished physics engine, then I don't want unexpected things to happen. I want it to work as I think it should work. I want it to be more like real world physics.

I have some issues with both games Physics Engines, but I also have major issues with the back of the Trials HD rider, that dude has the weakest back in the world.

Seriously, if he got in a fight, you just need to touch his back and he'll pass out.

As for the easier learning curve for Trials HD, I feel the same about Trials 2 SE, it would be the same for any genre of game you first played. Like Wolfenstein 3D will always seem more difficult to me than Halo: Reach. You had to learn the basic rules with that one game, and some of those same rules and tricks will apply to each iteration of the game.

About pointing people towards replays, I don't watch them until I feel I have achieved the best run that I can get. I know that there will always be people better than me, and even if I reached the Top of the boards, there is probably some kid in the Philippines who could do it better if he even cared to play the game.

Both games have problems, both have strange physics anomalies, they are both still fun to play, but my preference is for Trials HD.

Im a HD man myself but ive played Trials 2 (although not to the same degree). Goin back to FaceStabs post..

To me the controls are no more complicated in Trials HD than in T2SE. 1 brake, 1 accelerator and leaning left or right. I could be misunderstanding exactly what you mean but i would have said the opposite. As for watching a top replay including the exact movements and then trying to copy it, Trials HD has the same thing.

Completely agree. I dont like too much physics in a track and prefer the simpler static obstacles, but there is plenty of that in HD aswell though.

I cant imagine for a second that the standard of replays is any better in T2SE than HD. Some of the top players in HD get messages from randoms insisting that they must be cheating etc. There are mind-blowing replays on HD. This may be because you have been watching custom track replays which will show noticably less 'mastery'.

It seems to me that Trials HD is essentially a sequel, in that it has more features, better graphics and is generally more polished. Having said that there will be those who prefer the previous installment for a variety of reasons. For example if i was forced to play Modern Warfare right now, I would head straight for CoD 4 because i prefer it over MW2 despite it having less content, worse graphics etc. I just like the way it plays.

I welcome any praise for T2SE, its a great game. But i wonder, if all of you T2SE fans were given a free xbox and Trials HD on the day of its release, would you still have spent the last year and a half playing T2SE? If so, fair enough but please dont hate on Trials HD if youve never experienced it

I started on THD, and then went to T2SE. I like the THD physics better, but it's probably because im used to them. I pick THD, but it probably depends on which one you've put more effort into.

I've played T2SE. A lot. You can probably tell by my stats on the left.

But I've also played THD a lot, but I haven't got an Xbox 360 so I had to play it at a friend's house.

So I got Platinum on a couple of "Extreme" tracks, some of which being shameless copy/pastes of T2SE tracks with explosives put everywhere so if you land wrong but could otherwise have recovered you die. That's the lack of unrealism I get from this game, if you go to a Trials tournament you won't see nitro crates lying around or Nitrous that gives you enough force to fly. You'll see some obstacles and people getting over them with bikes.

I find the amount of bikes in THD useless because everyone uses the Phoenix anyway, or whatever the most powerful bike is.

I find the lack of camera angles annoying too, as I use Direct on T2SE as I don't like the camera randomly zooming out and pointing in random directions.

And if I had a free Xbox and THD I'd probably sell them and buy Gran Turismo 5 and LittleBigPlanet 2 because GT5 is more realistic and LBP2 has a level editor which pwns THD's.
