    Scary crashes/computer half-dying

Hi, a guy from Sweden here, I bought this last night and it's not been working more than 15-20mins, and I've only played it twice (total of 1h perhaps incl. the demo)

At a certain point my computer dies, seriously it shuts down immediately haven't experienced this in years and not on this computer) and here's the thing, when trying to start the computer it won't find my hard drive, so I have to plug in another windows hard drive of mine and then use it for a bit then use the other one again (it's not especially hot so it can't be overheated, the hard drive that is) - really freaky.

I've tried different settings and Vsync on/off, it runs perfectly on any settings.

I've also tried playing it on two other hard drives to see if there was a problem with it but it shuts down the same abrupt and awful way still, even on a clean install (Win XP OR Win 7, I use Win 7 mainly)

What gives? Note that I haven't experienced this in years and for no game so far. Except this, and it's a big shame because I really want to play it with a couple of friends and beers this weekend

    Specs:
    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8500 @ 3.16GHz 3.17GHz
    3GB RAM
    Win 7 (32-bit)
    Radeon HD 4850 1GB

    Trials 2 Second Edition v1.08

In idle more it's 31°C for my hard drives
    35° for Intel Core 2 Duo E8500

and my ATI 4850, GPU temp in idle is at 70°...

starting Trials 2 SE, windowed (for the heck of it) and just letting the god damn title screen run for a minute (not more) the GPU goes up to 92° then I decided to close the game so the computer won't shut off in that awful way.

I guess I've just wasted those 10 bucks huh? (no, it's not a big sum of money to me but I'm really interested in this game)

Unless I do some upgrading/changing this game won't work?

Are you absolutely sure that you have successfully turned vsync on? The easiest way to check this would be to turn on the FPS counter from the game settings menu. If the FPS counter gives you a stable value (usually 60, depends on your monitor) you do have vsync on. In that case all you can really do is increase your graphics card's cooling by adding an extra fan, for example.

Does this same thing happen with the demo version?

Ouch, the FPS is 350+ on the title screen so I believe it's not on.

    However, I've done the following:

Right click ATI icon > 1. ATI Radeon 4800 Series > 3D Settings > Wait For Vertical Refresh > Always On

But it's not working apparently? What could be the cause?

Thanks for taking the time and looking into this

    Found a solution...

I used D3DOverrider to force VSync since it didn't work through the normal ATI options.

Thanks for that solution info, I'll give it a try to see if it saves my laptop from melting
