Hey guys, just joined the site. I have created a few tracks but they really aren't up to great standard. was wondering if a couple of more seasoned creators will have a play at them and then post feedback below as to how i could improve on them. sorry about them not having times for medals as yet but i'm just loking to get the creating side up to speed before i tamper with anything else
Re: New tracks - please try and then add feedback :)
Welcome to the forums
It may be more useful if you get some of the better designers tracks and study how they've done what they do. Then incorporate what you've learned from them with your own style.
Are you more interested in improving your driving lines or your decoration? As a custom track rider i can tell what level a designer is on. One starts out making tracks with little decoration and sections of usually one material. Then they start having more decoration and more varied materials in their obstacles. Then they start having entire levels with the same over all gestalt*. From there it goes as far as their mind and improving abilities can take them.
Lots of amazing designers to "borrow" from here till you come into your own thing.
* I questioned whether it was redundant or not to say "same overall gestalt"...i think it is.
ge·stalt
a structure, arrangement, or pattern of physical, biological, or psychological phenomena so integrated as to constitute a functional unit with properties not derivable by summation of its parts

hehe gestalt...you are funny, as Captain barbossa said, 'There are a lot of long words in there, Miss; we're naught but humble pirates."
Stuff like driving line and obstacles you pick up ideas and techniques along the way. If you have a theme in mind for a track, this can take the most amount of time to create but if you stick at it, your track will start to come alive.
If i have a strong theme in mind but not quite sure about the obstacles then i tend to layer my tracks, here there and everywhere. The decoration will then become my obstacles. For example you make a garage or something on the side of a house, perhaps the door is open and there is a yard sale. So expect boxes and crates, and small items to make up the driving line.
And as Ender said, browsing this forum and downloading other tracks, not necessarily the best designers can be a good place to start getting a feel for what kind of tracks people like playing, or you can be brave and carve out your own style, a bit like shankly's tracks.

Add me, gt is sn here.
I've been running through other tracks, and I'm working on how to do the same thing, maybe we could private chat, and/or party chat, and go over what we've learned.
Layering thus far is gives a bit more illustrious layout to the track making it come to life, as well as just making a "junkyard" track where it's random stuff lying around.
Beyond that, I've been trying to work on that kind of stuff myself.
