in the level i'm building, i've figured out how to do most of what i want, but theres still a few things i cant get working at all.
1. how can you trigger smoke to be turned on and off?
(even if animation is off it still makes smoke)
2. can you change the smoke colour? (i'm looking for green)
3. how can you make a REALLY long timer (as in, will trigger something about 2-3 mins after you activate a trigger)
*edit*
i knew i'd forgotten something.
4. how could you make convincing thick wires hang from one wall to another. they need to be able to move like wires as well
*edit 2*
5. how can i get some stairs (scaffold) out of the way, then back in place on command - the pistons are being a right pain, and even the slow one doesnt give me enough time to pass them - they crush me
thanks in advance for help
i'll update this thread with any other problems i have when i inevitably have them.
you can't turn the effects on or off unfortunately.
you can light the smoke by putting a green light behind it hidden somewhere or inside something.
a 2-3 minute timer i'm not sure of, i'd have to think and test some stuff out. maybe some of the more crazy physics inclined builders can help you better on this one.
thanks for the info. i'll have to go with some system of moving the smoke in and out of site, along with a bunch of small range pointlightsOriginally Posted by heetsauce![]()
for a timer you could put an object on a spinner and make it spin out of control with wind where each 360deg rotation the diameter gets bigger using the elasticity of the hinge. at a certain point it'd be so large that it would finally hit whatever trigger you wanted the delay on. this way would take alot of testing to get the diameter/time and the placing of the build and the checkpoint would matter alot for consistency.
that's probably how i would start out trying, but like i said someone else probably has a better idea than me.
thats just given me an idea - have one spinner going as slow as i can, which will trigger a second spinner's physics on, then off very quickly.Originally Posted by heetsauce
with two or three of these i should be able to get whatever time i need
Another way to do a timed trigger would be to have an object fall but attach dampers to it so it falls really slowly.
reaper; thats a good one, would probably work out with some experimentation
ef; i dont think you'd get a couple minutes out of that, even with like 10 dampers on it. plus its gotta be in range to actually turn on.
Timer, have a really slight angled ramp (kinda long) have a barrel/something roll slow with a damper on it like fusion suggested, then have another ramp etc?
OP updated with the thing i forgot
i used the shortest poles done up like a bridge one time, didnt look convinving enough for me but maybe you could mess with that. other than that i dont know.
