Personally, I use the D-Pad 100% of the time, and I've gotten gold on 90% of the tracks and maybe 10 platinums this way.
I think I may be the only one who never uses the analog stick. At least in the replays I see, it's all analog except for a few skill games.
I used to use the analog stick, but then I got the point in the game where I had pass with bronze medals all of the extreme tracks and I was going back trying to get better times, then used the D-Pad in Inferno II on the pallates (trial after the tires) and it hit me that there was so much more control with the D-Pad.
Diagonal-Up works much better on the D-Pad for me than the analog stick. Now when I go back to try to use the analog stick it feels sloppy, and my skill drops a lot.
Who else here uses D-Pad ONLY?

Technically, you have more control with the analog stick as you can adjust how fast you spin while with the D-pad it's either 100% spin or no spin.Originally Posted by TeeMunny
I personally prefer the analog stick for it's controllable flipping speeds and that I've gotten very used to it. Every platinum I own can be credited to it (except the Ski Jumps games, obviously) and I have platinums for everything but a few tournaments.
I mix and match all the controls depending on the track and if one way doesn't work, then I try another way.
I always use LT for brake though![]()
d-pad for skill games like ski jump, and i use d-pad for stuff like tumbleweed and skumforce, the rest i use analog. i always use X for brake and i alternate between right trigger and A button for gas, depending on obstacle/track.
I use the analog stick and the d-pad at the same time for ski jumps. I think you go much further that way.
ewww, the d-pad is doo-doo for control. On the other hand (literally and figuratively), my right pointer finger gets fatigued holding the trigger all the time, so I'll occasionally use the A button to accelerate. Maybe if it was the playstation d-pad I would use it, but I avoid the xbox d-pad if and whenever possible.
Was all analogue here for a long time, but recently depending on the track I have been using the D-pad - always said I wouldn't. Always use the triggers though.
When riding, up/down does nothing whatsoever. The reason you may feel as though you have more control this way is because by engaging diagonal-up, you are not getting 100% horizontal movement, and this does have an effect on the physics. So effectively you're tricking yourself into using analog control, even though you're pressing down the D-pad as hard as you can. This may be easier than actually training yourself to only push the analog stick halfway.
Oh, and I only use the D-pad for ski jump, and had not even noticed that A/X could be used for accelerate/brake. Analog all the way.![]()
Analouge is the way to go, just ask most people that have forza 3, if there was a on/off for the gas/brake, it'd be impossible to drive without TCS or ABS.
*imagines on/off for car gas*
