Monster Trucks Nitro II - Reviews

    Touch Arcade

The first review is up! Touch Arcade says, "If you found yourself disappointed with the first MTN game, then you should finally feel satisfied with this latest iteration. Monster Trucks Nitro 2 has impressive graphics, loads of content to play through, and an over the top fun factor that makes it a recommended purchase."

I'll give it 4*s mainly because it isn't Trials
But it's good fun nonetheless and a snip at £1.79.

Ok, so... the thing about the first MTN was the mechanics were good, it felt satisfying controlling the trucks with the tilt. The only issue was there wasn't a lot of depth to the game, once you got gold on each track you were pretty much done, so it made for a fun hour of so of game play, but that was it.

I love the fact that MTN2 just feels like a lot more substantial game, more tracks, more vehicles and more depth (in the structure with money, and in the game itself with the new flips nitros). It just feels a lot more polished overall. I was worried at first when I noticed the auto acceleration option was missing, but then when I noticed the acceleration bar at the bottom defaults to full and you don't need to touch it unless you want to I realised that was a far better implementation of the controls. 'm lazy and can't be bothered adjusting the speed, but it's good to know if I later decided I want more control I can do it on the fly and not need to change settings).

I've only played the first couple of tracks (on each sprint level), but I'm already sure this is a really nice, full featured and fun game.
    Well done.

p.s. please make a trials game for iPhone

Ah cool, thanks for the impressions guys. The free Web version should go live tomorrow, too (cross fingers).

i got both of them too, first one i played throug straight away, very little challenge. second one, the new one, is a bit harder.

    moster trucks two:
    pros:
    good graphics
it sorta reminds me of the Trials games

    cons:
too much talking/reading in the menys before racing
objects tend to jam up in the cars suspension
    i hate tilt controll..
like all other tilt controlled games it becomes unprecise, which is bad for racing.

overall, a decent racer, but far from perfect. sorry.

The intro did seem a little long - but I can't think of a better way of doing it so I can't complain
I really liked the tilt control in this. I played the demo of the pc version and had no interest in it at all (it didn't feel responsive, you just hold the up arrow and plow your way to the finish line) but I felt the tilt added a better feel to the controls, also I was more engaged in it 'd find for steel slopes that I'd be tilting my head with it then eventually my whole body would move )

    ---

my fav design element from the game is the structure of the 3 ghost cars that you have to play in order. It's really cool that the first time you play a track you're given an easy challenge, then the second time (now that you've got an idea where you can do flips) the difficulty comes up a bit, but if you mess up the flips it's still possible, then the third time, when you've got a good idea which flips you can go for is when you have the hardest ghost that you (kinda) need those flips to beat. It's such a beautiful way of ramping the difficulty against your knowledge of the track.

    AppSmile.com review

AppSmile.com has just reviewed MTN2 and they loved it, giving it 5/5. Here are some quotes:

"Monster Trucks Nitro 2 is the best monster truck themed game we’ve played. In fact, this may be our favorite racing game of 2010 so far.

"This is one game that may have earned a permanent place on our iPhone. It would be foolish not to enter the arena and fuel your demolition desires. Monster Trucks Nitro 2 wins our much anticipated and much earned 5-Dimple rating."

"Not only does Monster Trucks Nitro 2 deliver an outstanding race experience, it goes over the top with camera panning/zooming effects, physics-based environment interaction, and car explosions to boot. We found ourselves replaying levels again and again just to watch the destruction left in our wake."

There's also the online leaderboards that enable you to compete against a) your friends in a private league, b) your fellow countrymen in national league and c) everyone globally. I felt that this actually added quite a lot to the endgame department. I was sure that, after hours of gameplay before the release, my times would be quite considerable even global-wise, but already on the day of release I was proven wrong. Many many times
