Re: Making a "Perfect Run" Bot

If they can't even get the suggested line perfect for Forza 3, it's a long ways off before someone could get close to this for Trials.

And Jon, the computer wouldn't have to think. The bot would likely be pre-programmed like a bot who plays Guitar Hero. However, with Trials, it would likely be the result of hundreds of millions of runs, fine tuning after each run.

I bet there are a number of tracks where there are still several seconds to be had.

if we had graphs and statistics for each part of the tracks, like a graphic representation of speed througout the runs, it could be possible to combine these graphs and statistics of several top riders to get a "combined master run" (i know this wouldnt be perfect, but could give an estimated possible top time.)

Perfect run from point A to B and selecting other perfect as next from point B to C wount do that. The run is complete and all action makes that run as it is. Combining other run moves to next section just ruins it.

Actually my number was a bit wrong (calculated with 64 input possibilities) when it actually is:
7 possible left stick positions, 4 left and right trigger positions, total of 7*4*4= 112 possible input combination at each step. As we do 60 physics steps each second this leads to a following number of input sequences in a 15 second run: 112^(60*15) = 112^900 = 1.9e1844.

*IF* you had access to the data structure/source code and *IF* you had a PhD in Artificial intelligence, and *IF* you were a big star robotics dev in japan, you could do it, but it would never be perfect, there is always some lag, which we human compensate for, which it cant compensate unless we attach a time machine so it predicts the perfect run...

Definition of Perfect run? Its a hacked run... or Lestropie..

Re: Making a "Perfect Run" Bot

Would we ever be able to tell if someone did a 'perfect run' (as in legitly). It would be pretty difficult to say that they couldnt possibly gain just one more millisecond, no matter how good the run was...

There is no such thing as perfect runs, only incredibly great runs

TC, if you're interested in bots and perfect runs, I highly recommend you check out:

    http://www.tasvideos.org/

It would be interesting if those guys could somehow get a ROM for this game and put it through an emulator for a perfect run, but I doubt that's possible on XBLA games.
