riiiiight.
i'm not sure if this is a debate or not, so i did a poll to find out. i get the feeling most are annoyed by things like, for instance, the floor fans at the end of Fantastic that can just kill your good time or land you on the TNT barrels. or the general weirdness of Space Station, etc.
my opinion is that i can see why the physics were put in. clearly an attempt to advance Trials HD beyond the same old same old of climbing steep stuff, jumping stuff, etc. BUT, i just don't replay any physics tracks once i've got my Platinum. and i'm also highly reluctant to play tournaments with too many physics objects in, because they do seem to be a little inconsistent.
i would like future DLC to be pure and simple, like the original Trials HD tracks.
but that's just me. so please vote and also comment on why you've voted the way you have. thanks.
PS. i was going to add more poll options but decided not to, so we can just get a clear 50/50 view on how people feel.
I'm with you on this mate.. I hate the majority of the DLC tracks which is a shame![]()
i like to play physics tracks for the experience and theres usually a few surprises on this style of track, but for maxing my speed and perfecting runs thay are a pain ain the ***, and thus i awoid them
i like the physics tracks simply because not so many people get the really high times, and i'm the kind of person who will carry on doing something till the end of the earth if i really want to, so i often get good places on the LB o those.
oh, and they're more fun too
Your choices seem a little limited. If you would have had a "neutral" button i woulda chose that one.
They're ok in my book. I appreciate the variety they add to the mix. It's like i love the Technique track, but i don't want 15 tracks just like it. One or two physics tracks is fine with me.
That part on Fantastic is infuriating tho.
Yeah there is a reason the only DLC tracks I play are Smoke and Mirrors, Isabelle, Prison Break and the two extremes. The only tournament I play from DLC is Midnight Club. What do these all have in common?? No physics objects!!
They make things really frustrating when you are trying to go for top times. On non-physics tracks the mistakes are made by you but on physics tracks they can sometimes throw you a curveball and actually make me start to hate the track. All I can think of when I think of Skyway is those bouncy platforms and it makes me dread playing it. Its the same with other tracks with physics objects.
Im not bagging out the DLC, for 400 points I still maintain it was the biggest bargain in the history of gaming, its just the tracks aren't really my thing, except for the ones I mentioned. They are amazing and easily equal to the original tracks and worth the 400 points alone.
Wel its more challenging then the non physic ones.(and i liked it)
not sure what you mean bud? do you mean "undecided" perhaps? or "don't care"? i've covered it if you like the DLC physics tracks more, less or the same as the original tracks. so there's effectively 3 options within the 2, if you get what i mean.Originally Posted by ender3
actually, reading that back i seem to have weighted it more towards "yes", which is my mistake because, if anything, i'd have planned to weight it towards "no"![]()
must say i'm surprised at how 50/50 it is right now... well 60/40 but you get what i mean.
As in not fussed one way or the other. Doesn’t hate or love them – somewhere in between.Originally Posted by ben1bob
I haven’t played Trials for a while, but I remember wanting to comment on the dlc and never did, so here goes.
For the question at hand – yes, I prefer the tracks which have less physics-based objects. But things are never black or white.
Skyway is awesome and I have absolutely no problem with it. The suspended platforms mid-map are easily cleared every single time, in more ways than one, while the rest is designed extremely well.
Junkyard I have a problem with. The beginning is annoying – where you need to wait for the big bridge thing to close before you can move on. Sometimes it’ll stall and hang for a little while longer, and I just wont dedicate time to something like that. **** needs to work 100% of the time in a game of this nature, otherwise frustration quickly sets in. And I’m also not fond of the fan section or the rotating bridge, although neither are too bad here.
I haven’t played any medium maps much, but Fantastic! is definitely brought down a few notches thanks to the fans at the end. I know that it’s possible to clear relatively well 95% of the time, but the level of precision required to do it perfectly is higher than a medium map should be.
In saying that, I absolutely loved the dlc. Would have gladly dropped 800 on it, without hesitation. But now that I’ve gone through each map, when I get back into Trials I’ll just be sticking with the maps I enjoy most.
I like tracks with physics, because they switch things up. It took a bit for me to get used to them, but now I'll often pick a physics track over a non-physics track to play. Fantastic is one of my favourite tracks in the game, and Space Station is one that I know I can improve on the most.
I'm going to reiterate something about consistency that I think I said in my very first post here. This game has an incredible amount of variables (speed, angle of lean, angle of obstacle, timing of jump, angle of impact, etc.), but those variables act consistently based on the inputs we give them or that the developers gave them. The physics tools like wind or anti-gravity, and objects like moving ramps increase the amount of variables, which in turn require an increase in your accuracy dealing with them if you want a good run.
Combining two or more variables at the same time, for instance speed and angle of lean, would require multiplying the number of possibilities for each together. On a speed run of any track, it is unlikely that you would have the exact values for each very often.
So with possibly the exception of the car not always falling into the hole on Junkyard, I would say that WE are more inconsistent when when we play tracks with physics tools or objects (rather than the tracks themselves).
Back on topic, I like this kind of challenge. I also think the dynamic aspects of the tracks allow us to see the best time or my best time on that track drop, even months after it was released.
