Setting Difficulty Levels Discussion
Hey all..
I just wanted to create a thread where we could discuss which kinds of obstacles or tricks fall in to which difficulty levels.
I am putting obstacles in my track which require switch jumps. I don't recall actually needing to use switch jumps anwhere until Brown Boxes, but the jump at the start of King of the Hill is harder to pull off than a switch jump. Would it be safe to say that a switch jump could be classified as a "hard" level technique?

In my opinion yes. It's hard to pinpoint where to put the difficulty based on obstacles because of each creators own skill level.
What might be easy for some is very difficult for others.
Mediums and downward in difficulty tend to be pretty flat out on the throttle but weight shifts will help you get cleaner landings etc for faster times. Underground is the exception really cos it almost feels like a hard track, but the obstacles have fairly easy landings and slopes which keep the difficulty down.
Hard has a definite flow to it but techniques are required to clear obstacles.
Extremes need pinpoint accuracy and weightshift, difficult back wheel landings and back wheel hops on obstacles and careful throttle control for steep slopes.
Just few guidlines I keep in my head

I agree with EF, you should look at the track as a whole, and work out whether it's flowing, or technical, or a little of both.

I knew that Akatsuki made a thread about this somewhere a while ago so I have trawled through and found it.

Re: Setting Difficulty Levels Discussion
I struggle with this more than anything when building a level. I tend to make things too easy for the rider I think. By the time I am done with a level I think "yeah, this falls under extreme". After a few days of riding it, I start to think "well damn, this is not extreme at all."
I'm curious to see what others have to say on the matter.

Oops.. I guess there was another thread (that I even posted in!). I totally forgot about it.
Jook : I find that any track feels easier over time.. especially ones that you create. This is often because we create track lines based on things we are able to do. I guess the example I used to start this thread works, cause switch jumping is second nature to me now. It's difficult for me to run through my tracks without using a switch jump or other advanced technique to see if it is possible.
