due to my job i need to get a psp or ds etc.. what would be the best to get and what are the top games...
what are the options? PSP and DS are pretty poo for their different reasons.
its expensive, but i'd go for the iPhone

DS all the way! Although, there have been a lack of decent titles for it lately.
What is your job? Maybe I could make a better recommendation if I knew what you were up to.
it mostly depends what type of games you want to play, i have a ds myself.....

Get a DS!
Its got loads of good games and its backward compatible if a mate's got a stash of childhood classic Gameboy (the small cartridge ones)!
I got one and a mario game, where you can share a demo and play head to head against another DSer!
I had the psp and the games are brilliant, but the controls are just too frustrating to enjoy them properly. besides, those sort of games are way better on the console.
So as everyone else is saying, DS is the obvious choice.
if you like oldschool games @ work and like emulators, psp is the way to go. for retail games, go ds.

If you have a PS3, you can play your PSP games on your television.. not sure if that matters.
just remembered something - R4 DS. with that you can download pretty much any DS game for free - a friend of mine has probably saved about £1000 because of it, and got scribblenoughts (sp?) before UK release.
because of that, i'd go for the DS

Hmm.. doesn't help really. I thought it was going to be a part of your work.
DS Lites are probably pretty cheap right now. There's the DSi and the DS XL coming out.
