you should only be testing every 10 min or so.. a much bigger time gap if your testing from begining. say 30 mins..or more. as a decent takes hours to complete im sure you can spare 3 secs for a good test run from start

Ooh.. heetsauce made a good point.. I often do this unintentionally.. while it still makes the sounds of the countdown, you can actually start riding.

While I'm not opposed to the countdown myself, maybe if you are starting in the middle of the track while testing, it could just do the "READY.., GO" thing it does when you push the back button on a normal track. The start checkpoint could do the countdown.

Whether or not something like this can be fixed for this game, I would imagine that would be low on the list of things to be changed, as the actual impact to the enjoyment of the game is not very high. I liken this to the method of restarting a tournament. It takes a few seconds longer than *I* would like, but it's really not that long. I'm just lazy, and mad at myself for screwing up.
