    Trials Cup

Here's an attempt from me to gather the community and maybe even get some old schoolers to come back, if only for a while. I'm hosting a tournament where we duke it out 1v1 until there's only one player left.

    How will this work?
When we have enough entrants and registration is closed, the draw for the first elimination round begins. In each match-up, the winner will be decided through a best-of-5 series where the lower ranked player picks the 1st track. The higher ranked player gets to pick the 2nd track, and so on, until there is a winner.

Both players will get a fixed amount of time to complete the track, and this must be done on a new account that players will have to use for the entirety of the tournament. Playtime will be monitored before and after every match. It would have been easier to get a new nickname for each match-up, but this cannot be done due to most tracks being unlocked from the start.

When registration is closed, ALL participants MUST make a new nickname and unlock all tracks in the game. Also, you must get a horrible score on the tracks you play when you unlock. There's no point in getting top10 on a track when you unlock tracks, only to get #45 on it in the actual tournament, having the #45 not show up even in the weekly scores. This is very important. I'm sorry that it can't be done any other way.

The time limit is not set in stone, but maybe 10 mins for an Easy track, 15 for a medium and 20 for a hard. And perhaps 30 for YSNP/Diablo. We can decide this later.

    Example
AkaM draws Harmless. Harmless picks the first track, being the lower ranked player. Harmless picks QCHills. Both players are given 15 minutes (QCHills = Medium) to play the track, and someone in the chat will monitor playtime. Harmless ends up #30 on the scoreboard, AkaM ends up #35. Harmless takes the lead 1-0 in the best-of-5 series.

    Easy enough?

    Here's the kicker
You may only choose a particular track ONCE throughout the whole Cup. This is to lessen the gap between higher and lower ranked players. This means that it'll be harder for people to just cruise through the Cup with their go-to tracks every round. I would not feel satisfied if I won by playing Speed Wheel and Lollerskates/Grindhouse every round. No, there is some strategy involved in this too. If you think you can go far, don't waste your best tracks in round #1 against a player ranked #77580 global

However, if someone is silly enough to challenge Jmn on Inferno, this will not remove Inferno from Jmn's track selections. Also, don't just pick your own best tracks, try to pick your opponent's weakest!

The final round (2 players left) will be best-of-7.

Given that we're all online at different hours throughout the world, all players will be given a timeline of 7 days to complete their rounds. In a perfect world both contestants in a match-up would play side by side, but for obvious reasons this cannot always be done. 7 days, however, should be more than enough to load up trials for a half hour.

I hereby declare registration for the 2010 Trials Cup opened! I will update this post with names of participants. It would be perfect if we got either 16, 32 or 64 entrants, it would make the Cup setup a lot easier. In worst case scenario, we'll have to give some players byes (meaning they'll auto-qualify to next round) in the event that we get an uneven number of players.

If you want to participate, post in this thread!

Registration closes through a joint agreement by the participants. This will be decided in the game chat.

    Re: Trials Cup

I have been asked to write a step-by-step instruction on how this will all play out.

    Here's how it will be.

    1) Players post in this thread announcing their participation in the Trials Cup

    2) Registration closes. All match-ups are announced in this thread or possibly a new one if this gets cluttered

    3) The two players in a match-up post their desired tracks in this thread. The lower ranked player has to choose 3 tracks, in the event that five tracks have to be played. The higher ranked player has to choose 2 tracks. Only tracks that are actually played are crossed out from the list of tracks you can choose in the future stages of the Cup.

    4) The two players log on to the game chat, stating that they want to start to play the tournament. A regular in the chat monitors the playtime on the account.

    5) The player plays the track for the set amount of time (10 mins/15/20/30).

    6) Both players' scores are compared and the winner of the first game is decided.

Rinse & Repeat until one player has 3 wins. The winner moves on to the next round.
