You know that thing near the end that is constantly spinning around and is really annoying if you have to wait? I think I might have a way around it.
I was watching a friend's replay. Before the spinning thing, you go off of a ledge and there's a vertical-ish ramp right in front of you. However, most people take the short route and just drop down instead of bounching off that vertical-ish ramp, then falling down.t's the part where the Easter Egg is, if you know what I'm talking about). 0:39 in This video.
My friend didn't drop down. He drove straight into the vertical ramp, bounced off, then fell into the half-pipe thing below at a good speed, since he fell from a higher height. He was going so fast that he almost made it to the top of the next part. You know how in the next part, there are two suspended platforms? The first is slanted up and to the right, and there's a second one, a little higher, that's flat, but really small. He almost made it to the small, flat platform that's really high up. (0:43 in the same video).
So, if you could make it up to that high ramp, you could just jump over the spinning thing, and if you're smooth enough, you could cover a ton of distance.
I doubt this would be faster than dropping down and catching the spinning thing just right. But it could still be really fast, provided everything works well, and it might be faster than having to wait for the spinning thing, since you're moving quickly the whole time instead of having to stop and wait.
I have not tried this yet, so I don't even know if it's possible to get to that higher platform.
I wonder why I never considered trying to go up there before.
I took some runs and it's fairly easy to make it up there.. but keeping your speed in order to blast over the whole thing would be really tough to do. I have managed to land on the down part of the spinning ramp though, but i find that tougher than the route in the video.
I've managed it once before not long after the DLC came out and I was experimenting with routes but never bothered to perfect it. Might have to try again though cos that part bugs the hell out of me.
I decided to work on Junkyard last night to see if I could improve my score. I found that it's actually quite easy to hit the spinning platform... or maybe I was just getting lucky. I can't really say that there's much technique to it, cause the ramp spins on its own, but I just try to jump through the previous obstacle without touching anything, and I land on or just before the spinning ramp.
I ended up taking off over a second from my time, and I should be able to take off about another second. I wasn't pleased with my run at all.. it's not very smooth.
I had another go at this last night and forgot just how much this track annoys me.
The number of times I got to the car that drops in the hole and it didn't, or the platform got stuck for a split second so it threw my timing out and I hit my front wheel on it was a joke.
And don't get me started on the fan and spinning ramps![]()
yeah i think i could strip seconds off my time on the track, but it's just far too physics based for me to keep trying. with physics brings a bit of randomness and so annoyance at the randonmess.Originally Posted by EuphoricFusion
when i play this game this simple equation seems to apply :
more physics = less chance of me replaying and enjoying the track
any tracks with fans in particular make me want to kill babies.
I'm with you on that one. Fans + anti-grav + physics = not gonna play very often.
It's the reason I still haven't got platinum on the DLC tourneys.... I just can't be bothered to play those tracks.
My most UN-consistant track has to be skyway, even though it doesnt have no where near enough physic objects than Junkard has, the whole track is so tricky for me
I agree with this completely. If you're going for a speed run, you pretty much always have to hit your wheel on the tire just before the big hole. I don't know what this does, but very rarely does the car or the platform get stuck when I do this. If I don't do this, I almost never make it across.Originally Posted by EuphoricFusion
I'm still trying to figure out where the trigger is for all the physics in that area.
