If you Don't want this to Happen to You.......Make a Backup!

Yesterday I created a track dedicated to R0T IN as a way to cheer him up for when he returned from the hospital. It is a hospital track in which the forum goers are planning his escape and are successful! (Epic ending inspired from his Down with the Sickness thread.) So anywho.....I was pretty much done with the driving line (just needed to add to the operating rooms/decoration) and was saving, as I hit save the game console froze. I was pissed and thought I'd have to only recreate a little bit at the end. I was wrong. I couldn't access the file AT ALL! So morale of the story is make a backup of the track you are working on in case you lose 20+hours of work or something was about ~6+ hours into the track) I also save after each obstacle to prevent this from happening, but this is the first time it happened WHILE I was saving.

I decided against taking a break. I was just upset having put a lot of time into my tracks all the time and then having to start from scratch is very discouraging.

TL;DR = MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR TRACK!!

Sorry to hear that Jarrett.. The freezing hasn't happened to me, but I have taken breaks from the editor several times because of the object limits.

Anyone know what causes the track corruption/editor freezes?

i feel your pain man - that's happened to me or sure - now i always save twice once as the real track and once as a back up that i rewrite for whatever track i'm currently working on -

Yup, I do the same thing Murdoc. With the first level I made (Glass House), I was easily 20 hours into making the level when I lost it all due to a corrupted save, and had to start all over from scratch. It's bad enough that I was "wasting" my free time making tracks for a video game, but to then have that time truly wasted was just depressing...

Now, I always save two copies of my tracks, one on my MU alongside my profile and all the custom tracks that I've downloaded, and another on my HDD as a backup.

Exact same has happened to me before too, but i lost about 3-4 hours of work, and found it VERY Hard to find the detirmination to remake the bit i worked so hard on.

Thats why i'm always in a habit to save after each obstacle i make (if i remember) =p

I ALWAYS save after each obstacle......but when I was saving it froze. That's what I'm upset about. I guess I'm over reacting but it sucked so much. I remade pretty much everything in the hospital level and its almost identical. Still took 3.5 hours to recreate instead of 6.

Happened to me as well once. Mine wasn't a console freeze as that happens once in a blue moon but the game went all spastic and editor went a kind of green-brown (sort of like the main colour of this forum) and none of the buttons functioned. I hadn't put as much effort into it as you did but having half a track wiped is still rather 'not good'.

    ah thats a pain!,

make sure you save every 10-15 mins and also its good to give your console a rest every few hours!, actual microsoft guidelines for xbox 360 is no more than 2 hrs recommended constant play (heating etc). I know its addictive but there is a line drawn somewhere on this sort of thing, imagine leaving a toaster on for 7 hours, generally these next gen consoles are pretty good these days but i wouldnt be surpised if mine crashed after that time.
