Mine used to hurt as well when playing but as time went on, the pain began to slowly fade away. I take it you haven't been playing Trials for a long time?

16 = rock hard thumb muscles and my index fingers have that perfectly toned shape every finger desires
I'd say that age could be a factor but you can develop cramps or pains in any joints or muscles at just about any age. I agree with ink3i, once you get into the game more later on your thumbs will most likely leave you alone due to regular use.
Edit: Currently tied with crazhalo for the title holder of youngest rider who's replied to this thread. I feel like a child among you guys

I have Beefy Thumb Syndrome from playing too much Trials in the last 10 years, I can lift a dishwasher with my right thumb, yours will get stronger too

I'm 42. If I play for too long, yep, my thumbs hurt. However, I have on at least one occasion, started playing Trials HD at 10:30 and then realize it is 4 in the morning. I haven't done that since I was a college kid, I don't think.

I broke my left scaphoid in a bike crash a few years ago and it never properly healed, so I feel your pain.

I managed to crush my left thumb with a forklift and half the nail came off two weeks ago.
Got sent home from work and just started playing trials. I think the movement helped as I couldn't feel any pain after about 4hrs!
Nothing like a 360 to get you feeling your best again!

I play games regulary, so I don't have any problems at all. I can play for hours without getting tired (other than mentally). I'm not over 40, but I'm closer to 40 than 30...
It's the same thing if you try to play guitar as a beginner. Your hands will kill you...

I was doing diabolic earlier and after the first hour my left thumb was sore. Ive been playing for months and it's been awhile since thats happened. I changed to a different track and it got better so maybe if you changed tracks it won't hurt as much. I'm a little past 30 so i know what you mean about these kids and their indestructible thumbs.

for those who don't know, like myself :
The scaphoid bone is situated at the radial (radius bone) side of the carpus, or laterally between the hand and the forearm in standard medical posture (thumbs pointing outwards). The scaphoid bone is the largest bone of the proximal row of wrist bones, its long axis being from above downward, lateralward, and forward. It is approximately the size and shape of a medium sized cashew.
i was assuming everyone here was around 20 for some reason. always interesting to see peoples ages...
i'm 32 and i've not yet had pain in my left thumb. longest i've played this is one session is about 4 hours.
