Just amazed at how much i and other players have improved at Trials HD..
I dont feel that ive gotten muchh better but surely i must have :L
I remember when i first played the game...i stopped playing when i hit the hard tracks because they were too hard :L
I picked them off one by one and eventually gave up because i couldnt do king of the hill...Once i finally done all hard tracks with like 200 faults on each i attempted the extreme tracks, and oh by god i thought they were impossible![]()
I remember actually reaching the 500 fault mark on Inferno 2![]()
But now....Ive platnumed everything but Inferno2 and a couple of tournments and 0 faulted every track apart from Inferno 2 which i have 2 faults(BUT THAT WILL CHANGE....sooner or later...so hard
)
And have quite alot of top 10 places...and its just amazing to think back and see how we couldnt even complete a hard level...to completing an extreme level in 0 faults and a decent time
Anyone else feel the same significant improvment??
so when did you start playing and how long has it taken you to get so good?
i bought it last week and played it in 4/5 sessions so far. i've still got inferno 2 to do but i've gold medalled everything up to (and not including) hard.
not impressive at all, i know! but still a huge improvement from when i first picked up the game. can't wait to get REALLY good at it tho...
Know what you mean. When i first played the extreme tracks i thought no way ill ever finish them.Even 2 weeks ago, didnt think id ever get silver or gold on them. But finally did a 7 fault run on inferno II. I know i can still improve and thats the great thing about trials, you can always get better.Have to say the track editor is great for improving your skills,if your stuck on a section just build a replica of it,make it a little easier and keep trying it. I didnt play any of the game tracks for about a week because i was messing around with the editor, went back on them and bits i was stuck on before, i was flying through easily.
This is quite expected actually. With Trials 2 SE people were still learning the game after 200-500 hours of playtime. It was almost like the game would have seen your playtime counter and decided to give you better scores when you passed certain milestone. Trials is a funny game in a way that there is very much skill involved and surprisinly much to learn even when you think you are already good. I don't think even Lestropie has fully learned the game yet
Many reviewers said that Trials is a typical Trial and Error game, but I kind of disagree on this. In its heart Trials is a pure skill game, but one of the main problems with the game is that we don't force the player to learn enough before giving them tracks that actually start to require certain skill set. This can make it feel slightly frustrating at start if the players rush to the hard tracks and don't understand to take their time to practice a bit on the easier levels.
I had exactly that happen to me, in fact.
Early on, I somehow fluked my way through all the Hard tracks and when I got to King of the Hill, and the Extreme tracks, my game came crashing to a halt. I couldn't even get past the first obstacle or two on the remaining tracks. I'd somehow progressed *past* my skill level.
And then I went back though all the Hard tracks again, and found most of them I could not *reliably* complete with good times or low fault-counts (or complete at all, in some cases).
After a huge amount of practice, things yielded of course. What I found was that when I'd practiced a given difficulty level's tracks enough that I'd *Golded* them all, I was *then* ready to tackle the next set of levels effectively[1].
[1] Effective in this context meaning that I don't fluke my way through levels; I know what I need to do, and the challenge is in the execution of necessary manuevers, rather than in 'what the hell do I do now?!'.
Edit: One other thing I did, that helped a lot, was to create a custom level that was packed with obstacles that required all the skills I was *worst* at to overcome. It was obnoxiously difficult, but it was very useful being able to back-and-forth my way through checkpoints on my own terms, so I could tackle specific challenges.
Yay i faulted Inferno 2 today and now im 26th globally....sorry Sebbi!!![]()
But ANBA you dont think Lestrophie has learned the game fully yet? Maybe your right but its hard to believe...watching his replays he does it so fluently and quickly...like he has no time to waste between one obstacle to another lol.
And to answer ben1bob's question it didnt take surprisingly long because i played Trials ALOT everyday....through the summer i nearly played it up to 8'ish hours a day![]()
But id love to see how much hours id played the game for now....probably over 100 now...
It's only been 2 months... I do still have a lot to learn.
Not only how to do speed runs, but also learning to better predict when the approach I'm taking to an obstacle is not going to work for whatever reason, and quickly adjusting my technique for that obstacle rather than attempting the fastest way anyway and crashing. This will get me better consistency through the tournaments, as well as for when Trials HD becomes a part of the professional gaming leagues![]()

In terms of the difficulty progression Jorma mentioned, it's damned if you do, damned if you don't. Ideally you would have tighter restrictions on easy track results before unlocking the harder ones to guide that skill development, but if you do so people complain that if they've paid for a game, they should be able to access the whole game without progression being forced upon them.
With that sort of dedication and smart approach to developing your skills, you should find yourself progressing very nicely. Well played.Originally Posted by magimix

Yes, I still improve everyday... Even if I feel like a looser when I come in this forum ( I'm about 15000th on the leader board ...and I'm the best of my friends).
This game is amazing, I which that I will be able to do scores that can be compared to yours one day...![]()
To me, Trials HD is just another one of those games where improving yourself upon playing the game immensely and watching other people play is one of the only, if not the only, possible way of improving. You aren't going to get ridiculous times and amazing saves overnight or by watching some "walk-through" on YouTube. Yes, those can be of help if the player is actually knowledgeable on the matter and doesn't just give you a play-by-play of what's going on. This is a bit far-fetched but if some of the elitist players like Lestropie, CreativeManceR etc were to make a tutorial video, so to say, and actually break down why they do what they do then that would be of great help, even if you're already above average at the game. Not finding room for improvement in a game based on a concept like Trials is ludicrous.
