What if a new item was added to the ingame menu that read: "Redlynx favourites"? Here could be like 20 or 30 community levels handpicked by the developers. This 20 or so levels could be swapped/cycled every week.
This would be a huge incentive to level creators (getting their levels picked by the developers and shared to everyone would be a nice ego stroke).
Also, it would give general players some great, new and refreshing levels to play almost everytime they fire up the game.
You could even create some temporary leaderboards for this mapst would be like a competition, having only a week to try to get the best score possible).
I think it would be fairly simple to implement, and it would take what? 20 mbytes in the redlynx server? So no massive servers/bandwidth is needed...
Problem is... we do not have a server. No server at all. Trials HD uses Xbox live standard feature set. We can store some data to the leaderboards, and very small amount of data to the player profiles, but that's basically it.Originally Posted by tonitoni

Where are replays stored then?
To the leaderboard data storage... and it's really limited. That's why we only have top 5000 replays for each track.Originally Posted by tonitoni
If we had our own server network and some extra developers to program all the server code needed, we would have implemented a more robust global sharing system. The system in Trials HD is the best we could do without having our own servers.
That really sucks to hear, the idea was great but I guess it would be a lot of money for a small company to fork out.Originally Posted by sebbbi

What if you cut it down to say a top 1000 replay for each track, that would save quite some storage and then you could implant more stuff to fill up that space you created by chopping down on the replays?
Even just a top 10 or 100.. Personally, when I'm looking for tricks on how to get through a track faster I usually only watch the first few replays.
Still, its nice to have your own replayOriginally Posted by noobaroniNcheez![]()
I would probably settle for a top 100 as most of my scores are in or very near the top 100.
Well I like to compete against my buddy not just top 100. That fact alone makes me glad there is a top 5k on there. It gives regular players a chance to be viewed by their friends and promote them to keep playing.
Yeah... we originally wanted to have replays for top 50k, but there wasn't just enough space. 10k would have been OK with current tracks, but we wanted to have the option to release many DLC tracks, so 5k was a good compromise. Hopefully in our future games we can improve our replay compression and get more replays for each track (and/or have more tracks with global leaderboard).Originally Posted by GameScrub
Basically we could have also used leaderboard data storage for level sharing, but allowing track sharing only for example to top 10000 players in global ranking leaderboard would have been a disaster. With a system like that only 2% of the players could share their tracks now, and with more and more players coming everyday it would become a useless feature really fast. The current system is much better as everyone can share their tracks online.Originally Posted by Elements1992
