    Custom Track Tournament

I was thinking of throwing a Custom Track tournament. We would pick three custom tracks and see who can get the least faults and times in all three. Let me know if you guys are interested and if so which tracks would you nominate?

    Rules

    1. Must play all three tracks to qualify, if you are not in the tournament and have the best time on a specific track your entry wont count.
    2. If you are top 3 on a specific track, I'm thinking of having the user submit a photo of the results
    3. One week to compete on all tracks and submit your results

    Considerations

    1. Which tracks to use
    2. How to get people to download the tracks
    3. Use the trust rule or submit pictures
    4. Difficulty level ( do we go all hard tracks, or a mixture of medium, hard, extreme, etc)

    Prizes

    To be announced.

    Tournament Registration (TrialsHD.net)

To be announced (depends on how many people are interested)

Sounds good!... Tournament section still under construction though!

I guess we all have maps so its going to be difficult to pick! We need some independent official....lol!..... sebbbi, jorma, sipe, ANBA etc! they pick!

    I'm in anyway!

    Re: Custom Track Tournament

Another great idea GS! I would definitely participate in a custom track tourney. I would like to say that I'd compete, but my chances are slim to none the moment Qc, L0RD, and plenty of others decide to join in on the fun .

Regarding the tracks, both the number to include and which specific tracks, I can think of several ways to go about it. In the interest of time I will outline two approaches that seem doable to me.

Option 1: Create two simple polls for tournament riders to vote in. In the first poll, vote to determine how many tracks would be included. For the moment, let us assume "three tracks" received the majority of votes cast.

In the second poll, you could ask participants to rank the courses they want in the tournament (rank tracks from first to nth, one being highest) from a list of potential tracks (you being the tournament director may need to make an executive decision on what tracks appear in the second poll). Compute the ranked scores to determine the final tracks and then get down to business!

Option 2: Generate a list of custom track builders (e.g. most regular/popular) and ask them to nominate two of their favorite personal creations for tournament consideration. Once the list of nominees is known, the creators would vote on everyone's tracks but their own. Ultimately, every creator participating would have one course in the tournament, and the event would be open to all who wanted to ride (builder or not).

The above options were simply the first two that came to mind when I read your original post. I am sure we will see more suggestions as this thread gets some more traffic.

As for pictures and preventing fake times, only so much you can do in my opinion without taking the fun out of it. Based on my experiences and observations in the forums (and on Live with people I met here), I think the vast majority of people likely to participate would never even consider falsely reporting times. Since finding my way to these forums in August the overall community here has been one of, if not the most, friendly, civil, welcoming, and sincere online worlds I've ever come across. I will take pics of times if the general sentiment is that we should no problem. I'd just as easily participate knowing there was a gentleman's agreement between us. Just my two cents.

If a lot of people signed-up to ride track distribution might be an obstacle for some. I haven't thought about it enough to offer anything worthwhile at this point.

If I can be of assistance in any way if this picks up some steam, by all means please let me know GS.

    I'd be interested too

Before I read your post akmiles, the first thing I thought is I'd like to submit one of my maps but it wouldn't be fair to others if I do it, and same thing the other way around, so I had another idea, it would be cool to make it a double contest: a map editing and riding contest. We would need some people to create maps especially for the contest, so that NO ONE can see/try the maps before the contest, we would need different people to create, judge, and play the winning tracks. There are many ways to do this, this is one way. Whatever happens, I am on board

EDIT, hmmm I don't think it could work that way, realistically, there is no way to prevent people from grabbing the tracks if you have to share them with the judges first...

QC- I like the way you think buddy! Seriously though, you might really be onto something here. I think this would make for not only a truly unique, but also challenging tournament (for riders and builders). If you could find enough quality creators willing to make a special tournament map and give them the time to build a quality track, this could be a very interesting event.

The way Sebbi keeps announcing new milestones for downloads, perhaps a 500,000 rider celebration would be the only proper way of celebrating! Being that my skills with the editor are nonexistent, I would do my best to promote the tournament and GameScrubs wonderful trialshd.net in other forum spaces around the net. Either way, count me in.

    Re: Custom Track Tournament

Regarding your initiative for a tournament, I think it's a good idea. Regarding which tracks etc, my personal choice would be no Extreme or Extreme+ tracks, keep it to Easy, Medium or Hard rated tracks only. If you made a tournament featuring 3 really hardcore courses you may get more than 500 faults combined and more than 30:59.999 in time which you can't currently input. Plus, it would probably be too frustrating for most people (myself included). I'd also say no more than 1 course per creator in any tournament for the sake of variety and I'd also keep it to only about 3 courses in length. Too many courses and not everyone will have them all.

Perhaps you could choose the courses based on your "most popular" table? So currently, a tournament would consist of my most popular track, Asleepmeunier's most popular track and QcChopper's most popular track. Anyway, those are my initial thoughts but I'd play it and record my time so that's one person for your tournament leaderboard atleast!

    L0RD Melchett
I like L0RD Melchett's ideas what do you guys think.

I feel like 3 tracks is plenty and the difficulty in my opinion would go from easy, med and hard from different track creators to promote their work.

I also like the idea of trusting the community and go for the honor system. I mean we might have prizes or not, still working out the details.

The idea of having the custom track created and then for the tournament would be awesome, but for the initial tournament I think we should go with what we have in place which is plenty.

I think I would have a tournament for best track later on (^_^)

And the advantage of using the most popular tracks is that it shows that people already have the tracks which is half the battle and if you wish to have your track nominated then have your players put their times to make it more popular haha. Another incentive to put your medal times and faults up and have your players put their records.
