    xbox live

Can internet and xbox live ethernet cables be interchanged often without connectivity problems? I am planning on getting xbox live for my xbox 360, but I do not have a router and my DSL modem only has one ethernet input. Can I interchange the internet and xbox cables whenever I want to use either one without connectivity problems with either device?

I did this for a while, then I got so tired of it that I got a router, but I don't think it wil cause problems, maybe a little more wear and tear than usual on your cables and plugs but nothing significant.

you could get a splitter(i think they're called) and 2 extra ethernet cords, they shouldn't be too expensive and are very nice to use

I believe splitters will cut your bandwidth if using Live at the same time as internet on your PC, I could be wrong. Just a warning, you may get some lag. Invest in a router. You'll be happy!

well, you'll cut your bandwidth anyway if you use pc and 360 at the same time. this has, according to my father, nothing to do with the splitter, i use one myself and i experience no lag.

    Splitters cut your bandwidth...
Well to explain what happens, when using a splitter your computer will be sending and receiving data for your computer (webstes, IM etc) and doing the same for your xbox (going on xbox live). Although it sounds like it should slow your internet connection down it will not unless your maxing your line out (downloading movies, music etc) and downloading say a game from xbox live. You should hardly notice anyway if you have a good broadband connection, the only time you would probably notice is when you're downloading large files. One thing you will need to watch out for is sending/receiving too many connections, if you don't know what this means then you don't need to worry the only time this usually happens is when people modify there P2P applications settings.

Not sure if that made sense lol but I hope it did.

Nope, you won't have connectivity problems. My router is at a friends house at the moment so I just switch the cables and reset the modem by unplugging it each time I switch between the xbox and the pc. Works just fine for me.
