Re: Trials HD Player previews and impressions

Put simply, this game is awesome! I think you guys are finally getting the attention and praise you deserved since the first trials game. But seeing as this is a review thread I'll mention some of my pros and cons.

    Pros
-Great graphics (smooth with good lighting)
-Much improved physics (rider seems to have more weight this time)
    -Terribly addictive!
-10/10 replay value (skill games, editor, achievements)

    Cons
    -No rewind button for replays
-No grunting/bone crunching sounds when rider crashes
-Track sharing only with friends? (disappointing but I'm sure this is a microsoft legality issue)

Looking forward to playing some more today, thank God I'm not working.

Re: Trials HD Player previews and impressions

It has grown on me throughout the day.

I didn't like it at first, I was comparing it to Trials 2 SE and it doesn't feel like a sequel to that game at all. I do have some gripes though which I will share, but bear in mind I'm only this critical because I see tons of potential, and I really do like the game.

The easy tracks seem to be incredibly straightforward and there's not much else you have to do but mash the throttle button. I miss those intricate tricks and pro stunts you could pull in T2SE to save 0.05 of a second. I just don't see those here. Also, I don't think I used my brake button a single time on the easy tracks, and not too much on mediums either.

Medium and Hard seem to be the best tracks so far. Extreme is a bit over the top at this stage.

Skill games seem to be hit or miss. Hill climb is a personal favorite, Infernal pinball is ok too. Flip hunter was destroyed by the flippers. C'mon, do you guys need toys on ALL tracks? couldn't you just have let us do normal damn flips?

Ring of fire, outside the ball and down the stairs could have been left outside the game. I don't care for them at all and doubt I ever will. Especially down the stairs seems completely random and boring.

But I do like the game a lot, some tracks are very well made. My favorite tracks are those without too many toys and those god damn explosions. I like straight-up trials riding without too much bling-bling and luckily there are a few of those tracks too, but sometimes THD feels a bit spaced out and drifting too far away from what the essence of Trials is.

But it's a new game, and it has a lot of really nice stuff. I like the different bikes and how you have to come up with what bike goes best with a certain track, I like the editor (who doesn't), I like the price (as far as I'm concerned the game is worth a lot more than the measly $15 or whatever) and I also don't mind playing with a controller, like I thought I would. Also, the one camera angle we're stuck with mostly does a good job and it's not a problem playing with it, even though I played Trials 2 for a year with Direct camera.

All in all, I don't love it yet.. but I certainly don't hate it either. For me, it's a good game and I expect it to grow further on me, all the while knowing it has a really tough job filling the shoes of Trials 2.. it's not there yet, but I hope eventually it will.

Re: Trials HD Player previews and impressions

I've managed to get a lot more time on the game since my previous post.

My overall opinion hasn't changed. The game is exceptional. I love nearly all the mini games except the skiing one which, despite watching the replay of the number 1 player, I don't really "get".

I don't agree with Nofair's comments on Ring of fire, outside the ball, down the stairs and flip hunter at all. The addition of "toys" on the main tracks, imo, adds rather than detracts from the game.

I would like to see seperate times for the different bikes on each track. I'm a little surpised there isn't a ghost rider option although this isn't a biggie for me.

In conclusion I think Trials HD is a significant improvement over the original and a worthy successor. I love it!

    DLC requests:

    Outdoor environment!!
    More bikes.
    More tracks.
    More minigames.

Actually late on the testing process we noticed that some Xbox pads have analog sticks that have very very tiny area where both the X and Y axis forces are maximized (older wired Xbox branded controller models at least). It's possible to get the highest 45 degree diagonal force on these pads as well, but it's very difficult to do constantly. If you are having one of these pads, I suggest using digital pad in the Ski Jump and Down the Stairs game modes to give the rider a proper 45 degree maximum diagonal push in the air. This issue only affects the rider movement in air after a bailout, so it's not a problem in other game types than these two.

It´s simply marvelous. Graphics is stunning, v-sync and 60 fps, so sweet. Feeling and sounds is awesome. It´s so much better then the "older" Trials, in almost every way. Thumbs up! And a sure candidate for "Xbox Live Game of The Year"!!!

Definitely one of my favorite games ever. With the skills games and level editor there is so much to do.
