in fact, that is the very difference that would be made by allowing free sharing of all levels (even if it was still only between friends). it would turn the current system of how it is now, searching for people who make levels, trawling through forums looking for other committed people, being inundated with friend requests from strangers every 5 seconds (that's one consequence i hadn't expected), into a real community.

we're crawling around in the dark on our hands and knees here now, it must be a fairly simple patch to give us all the power to get these good levels around. i frankly dont really feel like spending 8 hours painstakingly building a level to show to just a couple of buddies.

some kind of 5 star rating system or something would also make a big difference, as well as locally stored, tradeable replays for custom levels, so i can download my friends replays for the levels i've built.

if anyone thinks its a matter of people not wanting thier creations shared around like that, make it a selectable option when sharing the track in the first place, whether or not other users can freely share it.

can there be anybody out there that disagrees with any of this?
I doubt there is anyone out there who disagrees with that, the problem is I don't know if it's possible for Redlynx to incorporate such a system, even if they wanted to. Here's hoping they will at some point in the future. You are right it would be a great thing for the entire Trials community .

    Re: Second hand sharing

So only the original creator can share a track? That just plain sucks. I thought the user created tracks was going to be the biggest part of this game, but with all the limitations it is now just the biggest letdown. Here's hoping that things can change.

Yes, Farcry 2's map sharing had an 'authors signature' (i.e their Gamertag) beside the name of the map. Why Trials does not have this is beyond me.

Its been explained by the devs that Far Cry is a AAA game/$60msrp and Redlynx just doesn't have a server that can withstand all that sharing a the moment. There's more reasons but I forget cause I DONT CARE. I know its sucks but Im sick of everyone complaining!

that doesnt have anything to do with why there is no column for 'created by' in the list of downloaded levels. (and while im on that note, does anybody need to see on what storage device these levels are stored? does anybody use those memory cards?!) personally, i know the levels ive downloaded more by thier creators than thier names, and its a pain to have to look them up in the 'get' area, see what tracks they've made, then find those tracks in my list. in general, the list of tracks is in need of a bit of an overhaul as well. as well as adding a 'creator' column, you should be able to 'click on' any of the columns to arrange the list in order of creator, type, etc. some kind of rating system would be great, but i dont know how that would work if the content is all stored locally on everyones individual consoles. the same goes for some record of times.

secondly, great, we get it, its not a AAA game, they dont have servers, yaddah yaddah, simply allowing us to share levels created by other people would make no difference on thier end of things. even if it was still sharing among friends only, if everyone could share everything, things would get around way faster and more widespread than they do now. i would love to be able to reccomend a track to a friend, without him having to go through the trouble of requesting to be friends with its creator. its insane.

and another thing, it cant be possible that they HAD to limit the number of downloaded tracks to 100

    Re: Second hand sharing

i also have a problem with the 'its a small game...' 'we don't have servers for that...' reply. the fact that the sharing system is [and i say this out of love] such **** is really holding this game back.

there is not asingle person that, when they found out the sharing was among friends only and that you could only share your own tracks, thought"oh perfect! thats exactly what i thought they meant by user generated content!"

if they put a bit of money into finding some solution to this, they would certainly make it back. the number (and quality) of levels that would be seen in the first couple of weeks would make this the most must-have game in xbox live arcade.

to save yourselves from wasting server space hosting **** levels that nobody downloads, only host the top, say 10,000 highest rated, or most downloaded levels. i dont know what the numbers are, but a level can't take up THAT much space.

another thing i thought of was, if you fixed the sharing, and there was a robust sharing community, you could easily get away with selling pieces and elements for the editor, which would continue to keep the game fresh looking (as many levels as people make, i expect ill get sick of warehouses, tires, and shipping containers eventually). i was thinking the other day, i would love to have some kind of 'wilderness pack' with more rocks and bushes and trees stuff like that.
