Trials 2 is still selling a few copies and I think that making a sequel for the XBOX360 was a brilliant idea in retrospect, event though I hated the idea at first. If Trials 3 was released on the PC, it would pretty much kill Trials 2 SE. Now, the PC version will continue to sell and Redlynx doesn't have to share their profits, except for distribution on Steam. The new game will bring attention to Trials 2 because people that don't have a XBOX will be exposed to Trials HD and hopefully, someone will point out to them that they can buy Trials 2 SE as an alternative. Hell, it is so cheap, people who buy Trials HD might still get it, I know I would if I never heard of it untill now.
I don't know if Redlynx broke even or not but do I know it is not possible to get an answer on this. With all the costs related to Trials 2 SE: Employees, computers, running the server, promo and publishing etc, 75K PLAYERS (not sales) seems to me like it could have been expected to do better considering all the work that was put into this venture. I do think the game to be "profitable" in the long run. I don't mean by that that it will be a financial success, but I think that you have to look beyond that and look at the knowledge and experience, fanbase, contacts, partnerships and many other things that may have helped Redlynx grow as a whole and establish their Trials franchise. I'd sure like to know ANBA's point of view on this...
(While I as writing, the count got to 74994)
It sure doesn't hurt that Trials 2 SE's lifespan gets to continue and piggy back ride on Trials HD's popularity. I hope you guys at Redlynx will be able to release the next PC Trials game and publish it by yourselvesCorporate freedom rules! (+ I know I'll never be a beta tester again otherwise hehe)
Whoa, time for me to shut the hell up!

My personal opinion: v1.09 patch soon after Trials HD release would be a good thing to boost Trials 2 SE popularity. v1.09 is already ready and partially tested. All we need is a two day final test session and another day or two to get the new full builds and patchers ready. And then discuss the release details with Valve. After the Trials HD launch this could be possible (there's always some extra days between projects).
Teachnically it's feasible that we could do a automatic Steam patch, as the retail boxed version (incompatible with the patching system) are not based on the Steam version of the game. This way we could autopatch around 90% of the gamer base (all Steam players). Simultaneously we could update the redlynxtrials.com downloadable game installers to v1.09 version. But the players who have bought the game from redlynxtrials.com or who have bought a boxed version of the game would have to manually download the newest version from the website and install it over the old one. We cannot enforce these players to update, as many of the box retail versions of the game doesn't even have any ingame links to redlynxtrials.com website (they have links to their publisher web sites instead). It's unacceptable that the network connection of these players is just dropped without them having enough info to fix the error.
Yay! 75k
I'm happy to hear 1.09 may not be impossible after all![]()
I had this pic readied for quite some time now...![]()
Congrats, guys!![]()
If you manage to pull out 1.09 ... I'll be happy
75.000, wow.
hah. If it would have been real trials cake that would have been true true fan
Yep lets see about 1.09. Would be cool to put it out same time. Agreed.
And true, to player amount is getting bigger and bigger. Long sales allways good and hope to see more when Trials HD is out. But at the same time QcChopper is right. It has been big project for smaller company.
How about the server works with 1,08 and 1,09? So patch can be sent to steam and updated on site, while boxed versions are still playable.Originally Posted by sebbbi
