Have you actually downloaded it?
You may find that they've just posted the downloadable file, and it doesn't come with any sort of unlock key / key gen / crack / whatever.
Well, here's hoping anyway.
no i havent downloaded it i think they can just use offline mode when installed

No, it needs activation before you get into game.
Later, you can play offline, through the main menu (no active profile).
Btw, sadly, by a quick search i made just now, the game is everywhere on warez sites, but no sign of a key generator or something. Didn't bother to download and check it. But in many forums, people ask desperately for a keygen etc, so i guess in most of them (if not all) it's just the demo released.
Sad but true, some people (and they're many) don't care at all about indie developers or the gaming industry at its whole.

Only scum would copy this game. I really don't like pirates, they may well directly influence whether trials 3 will be made at all or not. So yes, Mr Pirate, your actions are directly affecting my life as a consumer as well (as I want trials 3 to be economically viable!). 'Victimless crime' my arse.

Yes it's true that pirated Trials 2 SE can be downloaded from various sites. It's a full version of the game. However you cannot access any online features with a pirated version, as you don't have a legal license key. Server only accepts connections from games with a legal license key.
We generate a new unique license key for every sold game at the time the game is sold, and the key is used when the game is installed and run at the first time. There is no way to generate a working key, as all keys are pure (high bit depth) random numbers and unused keys only last for a day or two in the system before bound to your computer. There are so many possible keys in the range that quessing one would take hundreds of years (using any of the world's most powerful super computers).
Key generators only work because in many software and games the license key is generated with a algorithm. When you discover the algorithm used, you can generate any amount of keys. This is easy as the algorithm to check the legality of a key is included in the software. With Trials 2 (and most games with online server connection, like Counter Strike), the key can be generated on server side and verified there every time you log in. There is no way to generate such a key, as no algorithm is needed to generate the key (every key can be just a pure randon number stored in both server and the game).
My personal opinion about the pirated version is that it's a good marketing tool. Many players downloading the pirated version see that the game is really good, and if they want to compete in the high score lists, race against other players' ghosts/replays and get the achievements they need to buy the full game. It's also likely that if they really like the game and do not buy it some of their friends will. And even if they don't buy Trials 2 SE, it's likely that they will have money in the future and buy Trials 3 when it's released.

And yeah, a nice and solid online feature is actually the best protection against piracy.
Anyway, i wonder when a blog or something about Trials 3 is going to open...

Agree with sebbbi that those pirated version can be marketting tool. I really jus thope that they work that way too. Prize is not obstacle with Trials 2 SE to get it.
