how many times are we allowed to activate the game?
Im pretty sure its 3 PCs.

3 different PCs. You can activate as many times as you like to the same 3 PCs, but you can't activate to more than 3 different ones.
The Steam version can be installed to as many computers as you wan't, but you can only log into your Steam account on one computer at a time.

I replaced my C: HDD and reinstalled windows, will the game identify my PC as the same one?

Oh... Ouch then! I have the habit of installing an up-to-date version of windows everytime I reinstall my platform... I think I may be unable to activate my copy when I get my new rig this weekend...

No problems if you haven't installed the game to more than 3 different Windows installations. If you have, then just use the support contact form at http://www.redlynxtrials.com/SupportContact.action . Give support your license key and email adress. Support can disable your old activations and you can install the game again to 3 differerent computers.
