Today I finalized "very low" graphics mode code and moved our new texture cache system from our new engine to Trials 2. The new "very low" graphics mode doesn't look that bad actually. I personally like it slightly better than the old low graphics mode, as the dynamic lighting makes the game look lot more like the high graphics mode in both low modes (low and very low). The very low graphics mode runs around 4x-5x faster fps than the old low mode (which also runs around 20% faster than previously). On Geforce 7900 the improved low mode ran at 185 fps and the new very low mode ran at 780 fps.
The new texture cache system allows you to play Trials 2 on low end laptops with only 32/64 megabytes of graphics ram, and now the game fully supports shared graphics memory (Intel UMA, ATI Hypermemory and NVidia Turbocache). All integrated DX9 class chips starting from the lowest end Intel GMA 900 now run the game fine.
Our low end testing machine is currently the lowest end model ultra portable 7 inch ASUS Eee laptop. Here are it's specifications:
Model: ASUS Eee 700 4G Surf
CPU: Intel Celeron M 630 MHz
Graphics: Intel GMA 900 with 64 MB of shared memory
Memory: 512 MB (shared with graphics chip and CPU)
Hard drive: 4 GB
Display: 7 inch (800x480 max resolution)
This laptop runs Trials 2 SE fine on it's native display resolution on the new very low graphics mode. The framerate hovers currently around solid 20-30 (sometimes climbing up to 40s). The Intel Celeron CPU of the ASUS 700 Surf models is downclocked by default to 630 MHz. At the CPU max speed (900 MHz) the framerate would be around 20% higher (GMA 900 is using CPU to process all vertex shaders).
The laptop is same size and weight as a normal book (less than 1kg) and has built in WLAN, so you can race against Jorma's ghost while you are playing at your favorite local pub or at your hotel's swimming pool. And the price here is around 250 euros. Not too bad for a complete laptop capable of running Trials 2 everywhere you go
I will upload a video to youtube later.
ps. The cola bottle shown in the pictures is a 0.5 liter smallest sized model. It looks a little bit like those 2 liter family size colas compared to the laptop in the second picture![]()
Amazing! Now i can give it to my brother and get rid of his complaints about new games that doesn't work on his computer...
Will this be available at the upcoming 1.08/1.09 patch?
Rock on sebbbi! I must say this was very unfortunate that this game was so demanding on hardware performance so this is great news. It will allow many people to buy this great game. Long live TrialsI'll have to tell this to all my friends with low-end PCs

This is the main feature of the v1.09 patch. The new "very low" mode runs at 4-5x faster (fps) than the old low mode. And the low mode has also been optimized to run around 30% faster. Both low modes also have dynamic lighting now (without any performance hit). Lighting is simpler than in high (normal) mode, but it still looks pretty good.Originally Posted by soad667

Hmmm. now I want one!! But what I would want to know is how long until it overheats and melts on me...
I really think that the fact that Trials 2 SE can now run on almost anything should be advertized + those Eee PCs attract a lot of hits ATM. I'm staying tuned for the vid
I got a slogan for it: "Trials 2 SE: It may be grueling hard on you, but not on you computer!"
I installed Windows XP to my own Acer Aspire One mini laptop also. It has a 8.9 inch screen, and weights the same as ASUS Eee (slightly less than 1kg). This mini laptop has wlan, bluetooth, 1024x800 wide screen, the new Intel ATOM ultra low voltage CPU (at 1.6 GHz), and Intel GMA 950 graphics (with 224 megabytes of shared memory), and a 8 GB SSD hard drive. Normally it has 512 MB of memory, but I have upgraded it to 1.5 GB. It costs around 320 euros here (+25 euros for the memory upgrade).
Trials 2 very low mode runs at smooth 30-40 fps on the Acer Aspire One with it's native screen resolution.

Btw, nice screen, looks like Acer's big brother...
