I'm having a problem with game freezes. After playing for a while (how often is really random) the game usually freezes while other programs in the background (music etc) still runs and sometimes my monitor just turns itself off (indicating graphic card problem?). I can't tab out of it and ctrl+alt+del won't respond. It will stay this way untill i reboot.
The freeze looks different depending on if I run fullscreen or windowed mode. In fullscreen mode the screen gets covered in red dots, and in windowed it just freezes.
I've been monitoring CPU and GPU heat and they are both good. I don't have problems with any other game.
I'm running a Q6600 (Intel quad core at 2,4 ghz) togheter with a 512 mb 8800GTS, 4 gigs of ram and Windows Vista 32-bit.
Any known compatibility problems with Vista that you are aware of? (wouldn't be the first time)
Thanks for your time =]
No known Vista compatibility problems. Both our graphics engine programmer and our lead game programmer have 64 bit Vista installed on their development computers. We also have two additional 32 bit Vista test setups to guarantee everything works fine on it. Our lead game programmers computer also has a Geforce 8800 on it.
This sounds heavily like a graphics card hardware issue. A game (or any other potentially misbehaving program) cannot cause a issue you are describing. Have you overclocked your graphics chip? Is the PSU (power supply unit) of your computer powerful enough to run all the components you have installed? In testing we have found similar problems, two was fixed by upgrading PSU (375W PSU is not enough for a 8800 + 2 hard drives in raid + powerful quad core CPU) and one was fixed by repairing a broken computer case fan.Originally Posted by Krille
Trials 2 SE draws a lot more power than many current generation games, as it uses a high end deferred renderer. One of the PSU limited test computers always hanged on Trials 2 after around 2-3 minutes of play, but required more than 20 minutes of full res 3d-mark 2006 stress testing to hang. It also ran several less demanding games without any problems.
Yep, both the CPU, GPU and RAM are overclocked. But I can run a full 3d-mark '06 several times without artifacts and freezes. All my drivers are updated..Originally Posted by sebbbi
The graphics card, RAM, sound card and processor gets power from a 650 watt PSU and the rest of the components are getting 550 watt from another supply.
I found that the game does not freeze in the "normal (default)" graphic mode. Freezing does not change with/without audio enabled.
I will try running without any overclocked parts whatsoever and reply if that fixed it.
Thanks for the quick reply![]()
The Graphic Card overclock was causing it. Should have been the first thing to check, but I was sure it was a Vista compatibility issue since my other games/benchmarks run fine..
Ah well, hope this helps someone else with the same problems..
Thanks for again for all the help and the fast replies =]
Will try not to bother you again, atleast in this part of the forum ;D
Nice to hear that the game works now! Trials 2 SE uses a high end deferred renderer and calculates all lighting and shadowing every frame (nothing is precalculated). It stresses the pixel shaders and texture units of your graphics card very hard. It's a very good stress test![]()
