We have one Vista 64 bit test machine with Geforce 8800 and X-Fi on our office. Very much like your setup, except that it only has 2GB of memory. It runs the game fine. On Monday we will test with 4GB and the newest Creative X-Fi drivers if we can reproduce this issue. It's most likely a driver issue (X-Fi Vista 64 bit drivers are really bad and hang many other games as well), but we try to implement a workaround. v1.06 will also have a "disable audio" option. If everything else fails, you could disable the sounds and listen to your own music while playing. Most likely next X-Fi drivers will fix this issue. We will inform you how this issue progresses on monday.Originally Posted by jollerbarn
Releasing v1.06 tonight. When you get the build, please test if the "software audio" and "no audio" options solve the problem.
Alright, I've tried the new version now.Originally Posted by jollerbarn

I guess I have to wait for Creative to figure something out, but how come I have sound in other games?
The other games probably don't use Open AL for sound, but use DirectSound instead.Originally Posted by jollerbarn
Most games use DirectSound but that's legacy system, because you can't do hardware acceleration in Vista with DirectSound. Open AL is becoming increasingly popular all the time.
That's the price for being on the leading edge!Originally Posted by jukka

GREAT GAME though!
This same issue has been reported in many other messageboards thoughout the internet.
While you are waiting for new X-Fi Vista 64 bit drivers, I suggest reading one of these threads. There are many tips to get it working (for more info search Google for "X-Fi Vista 64 4GB issue"):

Many boards say that you have to first uninstall the old drivers properly, or the 4GB bug in X-Fi drivers is not fixed properly. But some users are still having this problem, so the best bet is to wait for the new drivers if the uninstalling does not work.
And seems that the current X-Fi drivers have another even bigger flaw in them. Vista Service Pack 1 will not install at all if you have the Creative drivers installed:

I'll try these hacks tonightOriginally Posted by sebbbiWill keep you posted.
OK, I've fixed the problem.
Followed these instructions:

Copied OpenAL32.dll and wrap_oal.dll to C:\windows\system32 (backing up the existing ones). It now works both with hardware and software audio
Thanks for the support guys, and thanks for the great game.
