What if they should put it as it is, with no high score implent and no support. Just for us to play with!
Yeah, that looks like a solid answer. A bit disappointed, but life goes on and i hope RedLynx will give us many more maps to lay our hands on![]()
What a shame.![]()
At least Redlynx have made the statement rather than hiding behind silence.
I would imagine that this is a commerical decision based on cost. Poorly implemented an editor could have done more harm than good. To integrate user made tracks properly the in game interface would have to be re-worked. The ranking system would have to be adjusted (or ignored for user tracks). A download area would need creating, probably with a review system.. and so on..
Despite my disappointment I still think Trials 2 is a great game and worth every penny.
I think everyone agree with that. Such a small amount of money for something like this and with all those... lovely patches that came in such a tiny amount of time (am i being... cute here)? RedLynx won every single cent with this game...Originally Posted by Dragon
You are pretty much correct on all of those points. There are several complicated issues present about cheating, license management, game server infrastructure and the overall technical stability of our editor build (it has only been tested on very limited amount of computers, and it is occasionally crashing on those high end computers also).Originally Posted by Dragon
Biggest problem with the editor is that we didn't plan to release the editor when we started the project, so we didn't plan the server infrastructure and the game client to support user created level distribution, user created level high score tables, user level review/ranking system, etc, etc. These features require lots of extra work for the game, the server and the website.
While my personal opinion is that we should have released the editor despite all these problems, I very much understand the official statement about it. It's much better to design the next Trials game from the start to have a good user friendly editor tightly integrated to the game. If we decide to make the editor a big thing for the next game, we can design lots of interesting new features around the editor. Features such as user created events, level browser with level review and scoring and searching system, automatic level difficulty ranking based on statistics (how much time it takes to pass the level for each player, how much faults, retrys, etc), downloadable new object sets and background sets for level creators to choose, automatic content and object loading on demand (if you play a level with objects/textures/backgrounds not already on your computer, the game loads them on demand), etc, etc.
That was a really good post Sebbbie. Yes it's sat to hear that we are not getting any editor, it is fully understandable. Plus, makes me dreaming about next game even more!
