In recent years, action, shooting and killing has been the dominant display in gaming. With little to no light being shed on stealth and evading hostiles, or at least non-lethal elimination of enemies.
I would like to see stealth aspects come into play in The Division. With the Police Station demo in mind - I would like to be able to infiltrate that building using stealth with my team-mates. Take out those hostiles silently. Not needing the explosive gadgets or drone firepower would be something I would like to experience in this type of a game.
I've heard that suppressors would be available for weapons - so I am hoping this silent style of gameplay is something we could accurately chose to employ. How else would you guys see to take on the Police Station? Instead of luring the bad guys outside? Something to make it a special experience to you.
I have to say - so far, The Division is shaping up to be the first MMO RPG game I will ever dive into. it may also even be the first reason for me to purchase an XBox One.
Thanks, Ubi_Antoine, for doing what you're doing. You CommDevs are the key to a successful and passionate community - especially when building one for this new game. Good luck, and I look forward to further communication!
Im not sure i agree with there not being that much stealth in games today, of the top of my head i can name; Deus Ex, Far Cry, Splinter Cell, Crysis. Deus ex and splintercell even have bonuses for non lethal takedowns.
Apart from that there has been some discussion on stealth in the Division in the "hand to hand combat" thread elsewhere aswell. and i think the majority of the users on these forums agree with you on that it should be in the game in some form. as do I.
Because i forsee me playing mostly solo(im a bit of a lone wolf explorer type of player) stealth will be a big part of my gameplay. so i really hope it will be in. But no fancy mechanics like stealthmeters, red lights flashing if youre about to be spotted. keep it simple and skillbased, perhaps gear and stuff can impact but not in a game machanic way. example, black clothes work good in shadows but are crap in snow, and white are the other way around.
I can't provide a link or anything but I thought I heard stealth is an option in the game. I am just not sure to what extent. IIRC the object is to get the city back online and the combat/violence is secondary meaning you may not always be in a situation that calls for it. As for squad play, I really hope if you are limited to 4 player squads, you can team up with another 4 player squad to help toward the same goals. Basically you can work together for the greater good.
Even Splinter Cell - whose forum I have spent over 2000 posts on - has a modern emphasis on shooting and killing. Yes, the bonuses for non-lethal are there, but the bonuses for headshots are there, too. They're PR motto was "Your Rules. Your Way."Originally Posted by ScoutViking Go to original post
The rest of those games you mentioned also have that modern emphasis on shooting and action. Far Cry does stealth pretty well, mind you. And that would be the type of option I would like to see in The Division. Some access for players to be stealthy, and at least silently get to a spot that offers the player(s) complete and immediate control over the situation - as opposed to shooting and shooting until all are dead, or start to pull back.
@archav3n - Squad based stealth gameplay is awesome. GRFS does it pretty well (despite being a crap game IMO).
I'm not saying I want to be able to complete the entire game without killing a single person...... I'm saying that since it is open world - we should have the ability to approach a situation with whatever tools and actions we want. Whether it's sneaking in a back door and taking out enemies from the inside out, using CQC moves - or planting C4 on the building and completely wreaking it........... Those options should be available (in a perfect world).

Obviously if you are saying all 4 members be stealth based then I agree. Though I can definitely see there being a stealth guy in the group, so while the other 3 draw attention the stealth gun run into the object or go set a trap/ eliminate 2-3 people silently. I can definitely see a stealth type of gameplay being viable and useful.
True but in every MMO I've ever heard about stealth classes were very hard for the developer to balance. They are always OP at least initially. I remember that early in Warhammer the dark elf that stealthed (can't remember the class name atm) could stun you from cloak and kill you before the stun ended. If they are going to do this they need to be very careful with how they implement it.
