This is exactly it. I've only been playing for a little more than 2 years (obsessively though) so i'm mediocre at best. Unlike say the Megadeth songs, which nobody would ever recognize if I attempted to play them, these are layed out so much easier for someone who's not a virtuoso. SO, So much fun!! I have an ear-to-ear smile every time I go though 'Run to the Hills'.

Having to take a couple of days off as my fretting forefinger feels like I've hit it with a hammer ATM, hoping it's just from over playing and nothing more sinister, cant bend it without pain just now from the knuckle to middle joint

Funny you bring this up, Shihdo. I had to abstain a few days for other reasons, so I am STILL trying to improve on Aces High. If you take the Intro and the Riff (the first 2 blocks) there is what I perceive to be the "right way" to hit both sections, and the "cheap way".

The "right way" as I see it on the fretboard is to use your pinky throughout these parts. By doing that, your first (index) and second (middle) fingers are rooted on the D (2nd fret) and G strings (1st fret) respectively for the intro until you have to shift to 4 and 5 on the A string.

The pinky is especially prominent on the riff where you have the second (middle) finger and pinky on the 5th and 7th frets on the D string, allowing you to root your first (index) finger on the 4th fret of the G string for maximum economy of movement and reach. The problem is the pinky has like a dozen hammer-ons/pull-offs in the riff and speed and that has revealed how out of shape mine really is by comparison to the other fingers.
