Like many, I was thrilled to get this 5 pack. RS has done a pretty good job putting out things I like and has even put out a few things I love (subject included). Regardless, Love, like or indifferent, there is something about the music and the melody that speaks to me about this style of guitar playing. Usually, I buy the song pack, flip on riff repeater, & master the intro. Next, I tinker with the verse, level it up a few notches and try the chorus. Usually, I glance at the solo, skip it, then play a weak version of the song for a mission (RS2014) before repeating the same with the rest of the pack.
Not so with Iron Maiden. I immediately flipped it on to Aces High. I have had this song pack a couple of hours and I have not so much as looked at another song. Despite my intimate familiarity with the song, I am fascinated by the melody's structure and have no fear of the solo. at 50% it is melodic and a fun challenge. Rather than frustrated I don't have the results and too bored with the miniscule payoff of learning "That other song" I am having fun simply playing every note at a manageable speed.
This to me is what makes guitar playing great... when the music over-challenges you yet compels you to improve while you have fun all the while. Randy Rhoads' material is the exact same kind of thing. I realize there is musical and stylistic subjectivity to each player (at least to some degree), but there is such a stark contrast between the artists I mentioned and much of the other material out there. Accomplishing many of the songs has its sense of fun and reward, but so many have frustration and low payoff for time invested built in. It is nice to be challenged and enjoy it is what I am saying.

Holy crap! One song nailed me to the wall! I think it was Aces High. It made me beg for mercy! I have to admit that I was playing my 5 string bass yesterday, so stupid me was skipping the bottom string for a while, but I caught it after a few bars. All I can say is that like Pulpsmack, this is everything I hoped it would be. I'm at nearly 50% on all but one song first time through despite no warm up. This was the best $11.99 I've spent all year.
Keep on rocking!
Played through all 5 songs on bass and did much better (as I expected). I played my 5 string, so there were some issues at that speed, but not bad. I was able to pull off 92% or better for each song. I'll have to try them with my Rickenbacker tomorrow. My fingers are in pain! More left than right, which is surprising.
I'm not much of a Maiden fan either (don't own one CD) but I have to say, ALL these songs are tons of fun to play. Seriously a LOT of fun!!Originally Posted by CrazedRacer Go to original post
Just got this pack and now i'm seeing doubles of the songs when i go to learn a song???
One is unlocked and one has a lock (when i click it, sends me to store page, but i already have it)
The strange thing is, the locked versions show a shorter song length than the unlocked versions.
What is up?
It's sort of annoying and restarting xbox doesnt do anything.
