    Riot Shield?

Anyone think a riot shield could be absolutely amazing in this game during the CQC situations? For the "tank" roll, a riot shield inside buildings would provide a nice tactical advantage while not being overpowered. There are already measures in the game that could get past the shield to make sure it wouldn't be OP. I really hope it is in the game! Anyone else have thoughts or concerns?

That sounds like a great idea. The first thing that comes to mind with riot shields is decreased movement speed and the ability to fire a sidearm/compact weapon out of the side. I'm thinking about it and it seems that it could work in a game like this. Especially with the rioting and anarchy setting, not to mention the organizations that have been formed by bandits and such.

It is a pretty good idea, though like you stated I think this would only be good for inside a building tank play. The gameplay we saw had multiple levels of fire coming in and with Massive boasting not only game size horizontally but vertically the riot shield could be very ineffective in some situations. That being said it could also be extremely useful, especially if only meant to either draw fire from your medic/ sniper or to temporarily guard an injured teammate so he can be healed.

I see the ineffectiveness to be a plus, Shows that it would be viable as there are so many elements where you could overcome it easy enough. Depending though on the way you change load outs I would hate to be caught out in the streets with one or walking into an ambush with another team set up on some roofs. Although indoors armed with a riot shield and a Glock 17 with a 33 round mag I would be wonderful heading down a tight corridor. Team on the other end not being careful just running around a corner while your boys shoot over the top of your shield and mow down the other team. Sounds like good fun to me. In situations with no verticality (which I assume will only be indoors) it would be great.

Hey, i like this idea but i would like to clarify something,
Are we talking about an actual riotshield(the transparent ones used by police in riots, because they are most often not bullet resistant, and if they are only to low level pistols and shottys at range)
because this kind of shield would help against molotovs, and not hinder your visanility that much.
A ballistic shield on the other hand are bullet resistant(cert lvl; IIIA, 9mm and .45), however not for rifle bullets (IIIB). Those that are are mounted on wheels because they are so heavy.
And they limit your visibility very much.

But as said, i like the idea of a moving(slow) cover, though i would probably not use it myself. but for a NPC enemy it would make a cool tactical challenge with teamwork required(also in pvp ofcourse)

I should have better clarified, but I was talking about a ballistic shield. The more mobil ones that aren't on wheels. As far as immersion goes I can't really see walking the streets of NYC with a ballistic shield on rollers. In a CQC situation where you are likely to see smaller arms.

I don't suspect the game would go into letting you load out with subsonic ammo for situations you would be running a suppressor so that kind of defeats some of the ballistic shield purpose. Would shine against guys running around with M4s. It has been proved that .40 S&W, 10m ect. penetrate more than .223/5.56 with high grain rounds in CQC situations showing that a ballistic shield could really shine in the game. Could really help until you turn the corner and run into the 1 guy in the game that refuses to use anything except an M60 and AT4 in CQC.

I can agree that its insufficiencies only help it's category to be in game. Though This game is set somewhere in the near future so they could easily come up with some sort of riot shield that has classes the higher classes being resistant to bigger caliber rounds. Plus I'm sure they could eventually give you one that had some sort of pulse optic in it so that you could see people coming in the CQC areas such as buildings or around tight corners. There is a lot that could be done with this and could potentially make it a viable method of combat.

This, except i'm pretty sure the game is set in 2007-modern day. All of the reveals and trailers stated that agents were dispatched 3 weeks after everything crashed, right after they mentioned something signed in 2007.

Would be cool to be able to pull up the building schematics for the current building you are in on the inside of the shield. Allowing you to take a quick peek down at it from time to time to know which path you may be expecting oncoming enemies to be coming from. I'm not one to play tank rolls, but I think I could have a little fun with a ballistic shield.
