At min 3~ Nickolas talks about having 72 hrs of supplies, which that would encourage looking for water, food and stuff like that, but I have also hear that water and food will be only buffs to the player.
Any idea what the 72 hrs supplies are?
Also I would love if looking for water and food was more encourage and a bit more punishing, not just being buffs.
I am right there with you in that I wish there was more of a necessity in keeping up with hydration and food consumption. I almost wish there was a hardcore mode that took into fact you needed to keep up on your food and water, depending on how much weight your character carried you would be able to run/walk faster, getting shot in the head wasn't a critical dice roll but a kill as it should be. I doubt there will be a hardcore mode, and I doubt they would institute food/water being completely necessary as it would alienate a large portion of their desired player base in the fps/tps fans. Those players don't want to have to think, they just want to spray in someone's direction and then run along looking for someone else.
They could make this game extremely great, but then it wouldn't appeal to as many players. After all, at the end of the day this is still a business to make money. If you can make more by making a game that isn't as immersive or great then that is what you have to do. After all, look at CoD. It is the same crap regurgitated year after year with a different skin and it sells millions. It sells because it is easy. Point, shoot. Nothing hard about it. Punishing games become small niche fare, never to really catch on and be a massively grossing game.
As for the 72 hours of supplies, my guess is a few bottles of water, some MREs, couple med packs, couple vials to stop the flu or whatever it is in people, couple clips of ammo, and an iTunes card.
I would love if there was a separate set of servers that was a hardcore mode. Extremely more realistic no dice rolls, shots in the chest and head were fatal. Definitely make the experience a lot more realistic. Water and food mattered and necessary extractions every so often in order to rest (time skip for the rest of course so I don't have to wait to play the game)
I would love even more for a good stealth system to be implemented though!
Thank you for MASSIVELY generalising. While that may be true for a few, some of us just prefer not to be stuck out in the sticks, with nothing to use. And actually, the main reason they chose not to have consumption levels is because, games like DayZ that have chosen such a gameplay model, are now riddled with Trolls. They are no longer "Bandits" like the gameplay intended, and instead it is just a mess.Originally Posted by UnckyBadTouch Go to original post
Actually, this is the first game of its type to really address the lack of a "game for everyone" within the survival genre. Also, EVERY game is made to make money. Yes, there might be a more personal touch to some of the "indie" games, but if any of them told you that the promise of money wasn't spurring them on even slightly, then they would be lying!Originally Posted by UnckyBadTouch Go to original post
if you want to play a game like DayZ, go and play DayZ. This game is different for a reason, and from what we've seen so far, it will be an extremely complex and clever one. Don't just put games down just because they're not exactly what you wanted..
I do play Day Z when I want to scratch that itch. I wasn't putting a game down because it wasn't exactly what I want. I was putting a game down because it is the same thing year after year just reskinned.Originally Posted by c-swain Go to original post
I am happy you know exactly why they are making their mechanics a certain way. Care to enlighten us to the other burning questions fans have as you seem to have an in at Ubisoft?
I love you both, but let's be sensible aye? Anyway.. OP it is stated that the food and water are buffs. I believe it's in the what we know thread. It would be really awesome if they implemented a kind of hardcore mode where people were off of the radar and food/water was vital, etc..as it would add some more realism I have been looking for in a game with already great mechanics. BTW did any of you guys watch the new gamex interview from yesterday?
The Harcore option would be the best thing that can be added to this game. It will add a more realistic perspective to players that want it that way. This game looks extremely good to be skipped because of missing features (even if they are not part of the original game). Trying to say that, yes hardcore mode for the ones that want it would be extremely interesting and more challenging, kind of like Diablo, having Hardcore characters and normal characters for different experiences.Originally Posted by whatshannenin Go to original post
About the quote, I would love to know where one can find a link to the interview!
Link to yesterday's interview here. It's the same stuff we've heard with a little suspense and hinting added into the mix.Originally Posted by nahuelacosta Go to original post
I think if they balance it well and make the buff that Food and water gives really work looking for but not absolutely needed it should still be good. I mean say food n water gives you slightly increased accuracy and a lil regenerative health or increased health bar. both of which make perfect real world sense, you not hungry or weak so your hands are more steady and healthier with food so your body is in better condition.
The buffs themselves would beneficial enough to make taking on NPC's easier and maybe a deciding factor when taking on other Players.
