How does one start this thing?

Addressing a SINGLE player only issue.

This is a retail version. Paid too much for it.
I'm After all the Ubisoft side-ware was loaded, and key was accepted (there is a first!), and I sat through the long and arduous lead-in to when we actually get involved at the point where the main character is following some guy. and the player is shot over and over. I quit the game. Today, after all the Ubisoft side-ware loaded again, and same interminably long intro - again - and finally, the game point where the two characters are escaping from the bamboo jail - again, is telling me I have to start all over!

As it stands, each time I load the game, I have lost my 'place', or is Ubisofts side-ware down today?
    It self-updated,fixed/patched to 1.4 then 1.5 Am I missing upgrades/fixes/patches?

I gather any control such as saving the game when I need to, starting where I left off, or even cheats (don't go there with me OK?) am I to assume from the fact it is another Ubisoft sell-then-fix-then patch-then-upgrade version will need to be left on all the time until the random game saves by Ubi are improved?

On the matter where some wazoos are ragging on those that want cheats codes, not everyone is as free as a few that rag on about using cheats. Some are settled in to a game play, and after a short while, or long - doesn't matter, are interrupted and must close the game and shut down the comp. Not everyone is unemployed, living at home, a mother's dependent, or self-employed. Some find other things more important than making it to the next auto-save, wherever that might be.

    Vista 32
    4 gig Ram
    2.3Ghz dual
Nividia GTX 680 - well within acceptable requirements.

It's enough that one has to disable their protection in order to let Ubi in and out of everything. Worse when it is for nothing.

I had planned to use this day off to enjoy Far Cry 3. You think, that with a load of Ubiware, I would have learned by now. Guess I might as well look for a good game somewhere - else. Another $70.00 down the toilet.

I have the DVD version and have no problems. You are on the first mission escaping from the camp. You cannot save in a mission and once you are killed you go back to the beginning. Perhaps you should try some defensive tactics like crawling C key or throw a stone/rock T key to distract the pirates. Its really quite easy once you know how. This game is like that, sometimes you might need at least 6 attempts or more to complete a mission. If you are frustrated now wait until later in the game when you have to have a knife fight with one of the enemy to complete a mission.

If you have loaded far cry 3 successfully and played it should play again. If UPLAY is giving you a hard time, try unplugging your internet cable and it will give you the option of playing "offline". Then no UPLAY handshake is neccessary. As far as some of your other concerns, the game makes saves infrequently and you don't hit checkpoints quickly like some other games do. You have to complete the intro to the point of the start of the game I guess untill your save will start you from that point in the future. You cannot do a save game from just anywhere. The best way is once your into it to go to a gun cabinet and purchase something, after you will see the little twirling guns and a save will occur. the game will "continue" from that point.
In the beginning you are "jason brody", and follow your brother "grant" and the intro teaches you to crouch and sneak and throw rocks as a distraction and then high tail it out of there thru the jungle. You eventually make it to Ananaki villiage with "Dennis". In the beginning you cannot do a lot of the things until you complete the first couple of misions. You can't get skills or craft things.
If you want a cheat sheet I can email you one with tips and tricks but.....it's far more interesting to learn it on your own. If you set it to the easiest level "adventurer" it should be pretty simple. Once you get accustomed to it, you'll want it much more difficult to make it intereseting.

The intro scene (escape) is pretty long and you have to make it alive in one go or you're back to square 1 ... over n over again!
FC3 is painful at times and especially on slower systems like yours the input/controller can get laggy making it even harder to "heal wounds" in time.

You need real dedication (and tactics) to get trough it ... and all the game/cloud freezing on top. some days you can play 2 missions in one go ... other days the game (only) is freezing every 10 minutes. FC3 is certainly the most awful online game, in terms of reliability, I've ever played ... but I am on the other side of the planet too and that's a long way to the server.
