What Assassin's Creed has the best multiplayer?

I've put way way way too many hours into Splinter Cell Blacklists multiplayer and was looking for some variety.

First of all, is Assassin's Creed multiplayer meaty or is it just a diversion? I prefer games with some depth to them and am not sure if this has very much.

Second. Which game has the best multiplayer in the series?

Third, can a new player get their bearings or is the community too hardcore at the moment? Should I just wait for AC4?

    Brotherhood. Best.

The community is hardcore, but luckily, Brotherhood still gets an influx of beginners so you might be on even keel with some of the players in the lobby. You might also try Revelations - whose tactics and abilities are more in line with ACIII and ACIV. Unfortunately, both titles have very low activity these days on consoles (PSN or XBL) --- but once you get in a lobby (after some time) --- you can generally stay in it and play indefinitely without problem. Likely there will be 1-3 vets in your lobbies, but you should be able to get your bearings. Plus with Brotherhood, no online pass is needed and so you can pick up a used copy.

If you do pick up ACIV, you will have lots of new players when it first releases and so you may be able to adapt. The last releases have not been as balanced, or consistent, and are much more susceptible to lag - but there will be high activity. On the plus, they do have a "Wolfpack" mode which is fun, can be played in co-op, and does a good job teaching you basics.

There is a skill level to it. It's not the type of multiplayer that you can just pick up and be good at. It has some depth - especially Brotherhood. It's a good thing though if you like a challenge -

If you are starting out I would recommend waiting for AC4, as a lot of new players will be online with you. ACB is the best multiplayer in the series, but as Luckyto said, it is often hard to find lobbies, and it is the hardes to master. ACR is the best multiplayer using the present mechanics.

Best to jus wait the two weeks till AC4 comes if u want to get into the multiplayer, but if u dont wanna wait then ii suggest getting AC3 as its the most active

Brotherhood. If anybody says AC3, they either haven't played enough Brotherhood or their trolling.

If you're looking for the best multiplayer to have fun with, Brotherhood is definately the way to go. Unfortunately, Ubisoft completely ruined the great thing they had going for them and AC4 will be nothing like Brotherhood. So if you're looking for something to ease you in to AC4 you should probably go with AC3 or just wait 2 weeks for AC4 to release

In other words any opinion other than your own is trolling or ignorance

AC3 is the best as far as competitive team modes as it has the best ability balance and mechanics. Arguably the same could be said for competitive free for all.

ACB however is the best for pure gaming, IE playing the game to get immersed. It creates the best atmosphere of stalking targets and avoiding pursuers, and it has the best graphic design (smokey, mysterious, foreboding look)

So if you're a competitive gamer, AC3 is the way to go. If you're more interested in escapism and immersion, go for ACB. ACR is somewhere in between, love that game but there are a few significant flaws that mean I wouldn't suggest it over either of the others

My favorite is AC3. (Sorry, TheFazz ) - while Brotherhood has the best level and character design, I love the variety of abilities in AC3. It makes the game less repetitive, cause a lot of the abilities are very different from the others, so there are always new challenges. (mastering teleportstuns in deathmatch is pretty hard, for example ^^ )

AC3 is the best as far as competitive team modes as it has the best ability balance and mechanics.
There is so much wrong with that statement that I can't even begin. It is an unbalanced mess. It's mechanics are ---- BY FAR --- the absolute worst of the series and are wildly inconsistent. You never know when you'll run or climb a wall, or whether you will stun or kill, or even who you will stun or kill. People can stun your pinky toe halfway up a wall, and haybales are more dangerous inside them than out of them. When free-running, you may jump directly in front of you, or you may veer wildly to the left to a locked target. Perks completely undermine timed abilities, and loss streaks completely shut the game down for months at a time. Streaks and Variety Bonuses were so easy that one-handed Grandpas with bad eyes could slap kill buffer on, run about gunning and rush killing, and bring an ENTIRE LOBBY to a screeching halt for 30 seconds while Gramps hacks away for 1000s of points. "Abilities are not available at this time" just when you need them the most, and scoring is so poorly weighted that 9 of 10 times the winning score goes to the person with 15 discreet kills and 0 incogs. More people have left AC3 than any other ACMP before it.

And I haven't even touched matchmaking.
