I'm intrigued by this game and am about to give the demo a go to see if it's what I'm looking for. The game is also on sale with the complete edition being 66% off at GetGames and that seems about as I'm going to do price-wise. My question is that they list the DRM as "Keycode activation - Non steam". Does this definitely mean UPlay? does this game exist in any form where Uplay wouldn't be the DRM being used?
As of 2013 all Ubisoft PC titles were relased with Uplay (or Steam with Uplay on top) and I don't think this will change in the near future. There is an offline mode which doesn't has access to any Conflux feature (multiplayer mode + extra stuff, google it) but it's always DRM.Originally Posted by DrTrouserPlank Go to original post
If i had known all the bugs and problems this game has even after being released 5 yrs ago i never would have bought it. I would recommend NOT buying it. Even after the most recent patch 2.1 still having the occasional black screen or game freeze.
Contacting tech. support hasn't helped in any way. Not to mention they've said there's no more online support.
Save you money and buy a game that works as advertised.
I will try to make this totally NOT about liking or disliking the game. Those who like it will tend to defend the game and/or the company(ies) behind it. While those who don't like it will naturally go on the attack. That's expected. Of course, I have my own opinion on this matter but I will attempt to hide it and only state what I have observed.
HOMM6 was released sometime in Fall of 2011. It was in a horribly buggy state where even some basic features didn't function correctly (luck, abilities, etc.). It seemed as if the game had never been tested (even though it was).
So, patches started coming down the line fixing some of the problems; but unfortunately creating some new ones. Some of these were game crashers.
Similarly, DLC packs started being released and sold as the months clicked by. (Many bugs still in effect: some fixed, some new.)
About 2.5 years later: project is abandoned. No further development on HOMM6. The support that remains sounds automatic and circular in nature. The response I read was basically: "well..we changed companies and the programming was just too intricate to fix, or make random map generator, etc." but not so intricate as to prevent selling DLC's??? (Those may have been partially developed prior...who knows?)
Now here we are with this HOMM6 Complete which I guess is some sort of compendium of most or all the game's material. This sounds like a liquidation tactic to me. I have seen several posts asking for an opinion of whether or not to buy the game. This is what was intended. Try to get new sets of eyeballs on the game that will think... "hmmmm should I give it a try".
Well, if you read my post, you have probably ascertained my opinion at this point. I grew up with the Heroes series, played and enjoyed them all. I was terribly dissapointed to see this one fall victim to the business world's tactics, deadlines, and agendas. I take no joy in bad-mouthing companies where there are human beings at work. (I thought I kept it pretty clean.) Bottom line from me: NO! Don't waste your money.
One final note: there have been some people who have found and posted fixes to certain things. I give credit to them in particular. That's who I would want on my development/testing team.
