Good to hear that you mappers havent throught the towel yet !!
In my clan (www.taw.net / PC only) we try to keep the game interesting by playing all new maps in our trainings.
Using them for tourneys and helping each other out.
Month back we did a theme map-contest. Five guys made special maps for it and they were all great. Great fun and everybody voted which they liked best.
So despite the serious flaws of the multiplayer we keep it exciting and fun.
Recently some new mappers joined our group and they brought their creations with them ... so creating a new tourney (6 weeks) for this now.![]()
I have no idea, I planned on funding the monthly fee for 12 months as Taylor the Site Owner has had no interest in Far Cry games since Predator - he literally hated FC2 and FC3s multiplayer but was kind enough to leave the site running and he even worked with SupaScoopa_ with the last upgrade, those 2 put a lot of hours into the site back then.Originally Posted by Leadstorm76 Go to original post
Far Cry 3 destroyed a community and all the fan sites took a hit in their own ways, Right now I don't know who runs FCMaps but know that Taylor owns the site.
I rarely go there at all and have no interest, I will never become as active as I was with previous Far Cry games where websites are concerned but would host and play the game.
I think I would jump on Dappers site and use the Ubi Forums to promote any maps I like - I preferred FCMaps much more when it was simplified - Someone might take the bull by the horns and work with Taylor to get the site back on track but I think that would be a big task, I won't be getting involved again but have to say that I had some great years helping out on the site and meeting some really crazy map builders.

thanks for the reply champ.
and thanks for being honest about the effects of far cry 3 on the mapping and overall far cry community.
Its crazy how a few bad development decisions can really damage a games longevity.
I hope they take a few ideas from killzone like you said in other posts, and use them. its funny how they used that drop and stab technique from fc3.
They must have really liked it. I have a good feeling about fc4 for a few reasons, one is finally ps4 will no doubt have much more players.
And secondly with that whole share button on ps4 which xbone will have something similar to probably, it will be easier to share your map creations.
you know the way mappers show off their creations will change pretty soon, I would like to see far cry universe and fc maps be some of the first to take full advantage of this.
I believe that Ubisoft Massive were supposed to have their own site for showcasing peoples maps and stuff, my opinion is that they got knocked back very late in development - I think they were dictated to a lot and possibly could not do everything they would have hoped to, there was so much anger within the community and that is still boiling over even now because we all know FC3 could have been something special, it did have a lot of things that could have really made a difference but maybe time and money constraints just got the better of them - everything is on a budget and time scale and as a result things suffer in some areas and changes are made.
The Terrain Hole was excellent as was Water at different height and different color (although it would have been better if the grid size of the water could have been scaled down)
waterfalls were good as were the water effects but there were too many single blood waterfalls.
You all know that if there were vehicles / Ziplines and Gun Turrets a huge number would have been so much happier, add in player hosting options galore and a way to customize a players appearance / looks with different clothing / skin color etc and the game would become more personal to the player.
The other big issue was the lack of multiplayer modes and the fact that the MP Modes we got were very similar, people want Capture The Flag but with the option to also do attack / defend type games, I personally would love Last Man Standing for solo or team games and also a solo death match mode - Domination was ok but I much preferred Seek and Secure from Predator / Evolutions.
They should have brought back Predator mode also - the fans from the console version want it so why not give people what they want after all they are in the business of making a game so they should try to keep the fans happy.
Far Cry 3 is what it is and there are some things that I really liked a lot, they did it their way and the multiplayer side backfired unfortunately for them, a game that could have lasted 4-5 years easily and could have become legendary instead failed miserably within the first month and after that everything was down hill.
I liked coop a lot and loved the single player, I was lucky enough to not get very many freezes when using the editor and a lot of the pieces within the editor were excellent but the fun was gone for 3 key reasons.

They have enough feedback that they know what people want but Ubisoft did not listen with FC2 and certainly did not listen with what we got multiplayer wise in FC3 so will things change - I hope so but then I am a sucker for Far Cry and always in hope.
Now the wing suit - imagine if there was an option to select that in multiplayer but where players did not die when they hit an object or the floor, That could make for some insane maps, we should be able to use a knife or at least have some specific way to hurt players when under water.
Vehicles could do with an option to take more damage or possibly go a little faster - some would benefit from a jump maybe like the bunny hopping ATV in Instincts / Predator, once set the vehicles would act that way in the created map so as an example if I were to select a slightly quicker pace for the players and vehicles - maybe select no reloading for weapons, that would give me a quick paced game - I like the thoughts to create a match that I would want to play in.
We need that single player mission creator with A.I. and hopefully check points for those making Escape / Course Maps - Also a 4 player coop mission creator with objectives would be welcomed.
We must be able to manipulate / select the time a match runs for and also be able to lock maps to stop anyone stealing them and using them as their own.
If they can get all that into the next game or something similar then it will be one hell of a game, as for Far Cry Fan Sites if Massive had done their own and done a good job of it like Bungie did with their Halo Forge site then I am sure they would get a lions share of the community.
Things could bounce back and people could have fun but I believe a lot of us are scarred from the past game, The community side was handled very badly and in a way had their noses rubbed in the dirt many times - The thing not to do is piss off your fan base and that is exactly what they did - Maybe they knew there were issues in MOP and because of this they didn't want to extend the life of the game and support it as they should have done so instead they are hoping that they get it all right next time.
Your right the

was the death raddle of multiplayer. its sad the game had so much potential I hope they learned from far cry 3. Yeah they finally made a shiny penny but the whole community is virtually gone. I miss the days when people were mapping like crazy and being able to see all the different games being hosted on various maps. They were blind to see what the secret sauce was on fc2 and left it out of fc3. I could tell they tried to make a better fc with all the editor improvmemts like lights, waterfalls, and AI players. They did have an idea of what most expected for the next fc but when they try and go in unique directions or just being creative and things go wrong.
There are 2 things on my mind right now besides homework.
I was reading a article on techspot saying ubisoft has planned out some video game conference, I think I was pax and they had all thee games mentioned but no mention of fc4.
didn't they say we should be hearing some news on that soon? or maybe they will unveil new details at pax?
The other thing on my mind is I like how on the new killzone you can watch your buddies playing mp and jump in the game.
hopefully fc4 will have that same capability. It would be pretty cool to see if a specific map was worth getting into because you could get a pretty good idea if it was crappy or not.
I forgot about the lighting, there were some excellent pieces in the editor but at the same time the fences were very poor compared to FC2 and the grass in FC3 was dreadful but I guess they had to make sacrifices somewhere.
Water looked great on PC but was just eye candy really, no big maps because of the draw distance and fact that movement on foot was just too slow.
I also wished that Radar could have been fully turned off the same as Team Support Weapons (those were a huge let down for me and should have an option to turn those and Battle Cries off in any playlist)
They should have ported a lot of items over from FC2 in the editor as a map pack - I would hope that with Far Cry 4 they might consider this, maybe touch them up a little visually and sell them as FC2 & FC3 map pack - with FC4 having its own unique pieces.
They did say an announcement would be coming soon reference FC4 but that was some time ago now, maybe once the Splinter Cell and Assassins Creed stuff die down they might start the circus going again.
Yeah you would think they would use some assets from fc2 devs typically like to do that sort of thing. They did improve on weapon load outs but they were still kind of weird. I've seen killzone's new weapons load out in action looks very impressive so far. I think there's a bigger gamer crowd out there that want a shooter that's solid with lots of options like pc,s shooter typically give you, and I think killzone's devs see that based on all the options that they give you. fc4 should really take some of that over to fc4. There's something to be said about a lobby screen that shows all the different matches in progress, you can look at it ! its tangible and it makes you wanna be a part of it. I liked seeing matches in progress being hosted by gamer tags I recognized because I knew they were mappers and they were probably playing on a very cool map. with fc3 you couldn't get a feeling of any kind of community.
FC3 also missed the SNAP Tool badly and where the PC version had rotate items by degrees we console gamers should have been given the option to use that also.
As for seeing matches hosted that is one thing that was truly missed, I know player names that always host an assortment of new and old maps by multiple map builders, no Far Cry politics or crap gets into their playlist - basically if the map is good it gets hosted and it was all about playability, this is what the game Far Cry was about sharing and enjoying other peoples work - Unfortunately now it is all about egos and players falling out over petty stuff - rivalry can be a good thing but it got bad in FC2 and with FC3 it was a joke, map Ratings in my opinion were partly to blame for a community in turmoil.
It's nice to know how many times a map has been downloaded and played but anything else for me is a step too far - with such big differences in play styles and what people want / like there will never be a map that everyone truly thinks is perfect so I hope they leave a lot of the crap out from the next game - All the Gold list in FC3 and the Ubi Recommended / Ranked lists did in Far Cry was divide a community and cause arguments.
